Yeah and this isn't the first time they've shown it. It was on last Sunday at 8pm. They chopped it up pretty good, you won't see everything that the DVD has but it's enough to understand the early years of VH.

It was on last night in Phoenix. What a surprise to be flippin' through the channel guide and all of a sudden seeing that a show simply called, "Van Halen" is on! When was the last time anybody saw VH on any channel besides MTV or VH1??

If everyone involved this little rock (soap) opera (meaning all the VH alumni)could stifle the cranial rectitis just a bit, this could be the start of a successful R&R H.O.F. campaign.....

I missed the whole dam thing! All I caught was the guys singing happy trails at the end. How much actual footage of VH was in it? Any interviews with the guys? I heard the DVD only talked to other people and not the band.

Some of the guys are in it, but not specifically for the DVD, the interviews were lifted from other sources. Like when Al is talking, that's from an old Rockline or something, etc...

Was it on WB? I think my dad said something about it last night. I only caught a documentary on Zep, which is still cool, but not as cool as if I cought the VH one!
So you broke down, trying to leave town, I broke down crying on your return. You left me feeling hopeful, I'll never see your face again. You made for a bad lover's liver. You stole all the covers and busted my head. You made me such an asshole, I wish we'd never met. I'm tired of being bored. I'm through with the headaches. I helped them with it, besides doing the interview. I hesitated giving in to the interview request, but they kept after me. It's funny - I was the only person interviewed for that who actually wasn't there in the early years of Van Halen... I was in 8th grade when 1984 came out. But the interview was fun... the producer & the video guy came came over one summer day, we rearranged my living room furniture, covered up all the windows, set up the colored lights, & I cracked open a few Coronas. (You can't see the Coronas.... but they were there, trust me)! It was a fun interview. It lasted around 3 hours. They were really happy with it, and I was too. I think they did as good a job as anyone could have done, without actually having the band's help.

It's frustrating how Van Halen doesn't partake in anything like this. I think they are the only major rock band who basically ignores their past... they have nothing released from the Dave era as far as live video or audio. Yet EVERY other rock band I can think of has. You can walk into any Blockbuster Video and rent old footage of any band... Aerosmith, Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc... but no classic Van Halen. That's why many young kids don't even know who "Van Halen" is. They would definately be more popular if they officially documented their early years. The silence is hurting their legacy. I can't imagine the reason for not doing it...

That show was weak. The only redeeming factor was seeing Jeff on there giving an excellent performance. Plus he was one of the only dudes with hair.

I wish they'd show it here. It's very frustrating that they don't do more to preserve the band. I just don't understand their thinking with this. Drives me crazy. We all work so hard to keep them alive. It's like they think if we do it they won't have to.

It's an interesting DVD for the dedicated VH fan. For the half hearted, I can imagine it could be tiresome. No VH music at all, a couple of clips of old interviews of Ed, some audio of Alex and Mike and a little footage of a Dave interview. But as a VH fan from the beginning, it's great to hear the tales from old roadies and friends, Mark Stone and of course, the lovely Jeff!

Andy Johns has me in stitches by the way he talks, especially describing Ed and Alex's reaction to the mention of the Dave split, Eddie crying and Alex tearing cupboards off the walls and chewing nails... LOL.... very funny. (For those who have the RHRN promo video, there is a shot of Andy at the mixing desk in 5150 with a couple of HUGE spliffs he quickly throws down onto the board!!! Typical Andy Johns )

It would be awesome to have an official history of VH though.
