Everybody chill.
Bashing VH has become a very popoular cry on this and other sites as of late. Their "non-newsworthy" comment about the WB split seemed to put everyone over the top.

I'll bet the second they come out of the closet with whatever they're doing, give us some new music and apolgize for the delay you'll all forgive them. So let's just pretend they'd like to be in that position, to win us fans back, and get over the bashing for a while.

The world is asking Van Halen to marry someone they've divorced twice already, just to please us. Throw cancer on top of that and you get an ugly brew. We're in no position to be telling them acceptable timetables for any of the above.

The reason we haven't heard anything from them should be good news for anyone wishing for a Roth/VH reunion. If that idea was dead, the silence would be too (IMHO).

HH - I agree with you. There has been a lot of shit happening in VH world. New Former Lead singer leaves - now they need to find a former new lead singer Ed all the while got a new hip, is fighting cancers, Al has sold his Vette - - (and that is all we know about him). Putting together a new album is tough at the best of times - toss in this stuff and you have a recipe for LONG waits.

The big problem everyone has is they - plain and simple - SUCK at PR. Do you think any of us would be wound as tight if they just came out with an honest answer as to what is going on?? Sure there will be speculation of a new singer and desire for the return of a former one; but fuck - tell THE FANS something....ANYTHING. And tell it to the fans - not fans of golf magazines - what a degrading way to find out info.

I work is a pretty large office; I find that when communciation is stifled - specualtion and anxiety run amok; causing resentment, frustration and anger. Do ANY of these emotions sound familiar to regular VH fans?
Winners come and go; legends are forever.

The old "No News is Good News" thing went out the window long ago in this fiasco.

haha No argument here. Between the '96 MTV awards and extrememly poor sales from "3". I'd say they're a little gun shy with the media to say the least.

I admit I've done some minor bashing. But on the other hand....as frustrated as we may get, I personally don't think that they would let themselves, their legend, and their fan base self destruct without a word or explanation. It's been a while but they have to speak sometime....right?????

I'm not defending the silence (or I don't mean to). I'm just saying I think they are well aware that their future is slipping away. And as soon as they come forth with a plan, we'll hear it. They'll apolgize in some way and we'll all be happy with some kind of explanation.

Don't get me wrong, this whole wait has been weird as much as its been frustrating. But to think they don't realize their career is going down the shitter (at least in the context we used to think of the band), I think that would be naive.

They don't owe us anything. But they do owe it to themselves to make the best career move they can given their health.

Maybe getting on their own label is one way to do that. Maybe keeping a low profile about their future made it much easier to get out of the WB deal. Do you think they could have slipped out of the WB deal if they had been shouting out about how kick ass their new material sounds with Dave or whoever?

I think a point to make here would be that maybe they don't feel their future is slipping away. In the big scheme of things, is popularity really that important to them anymore? Because that's all it boils down to. They've been on top, they have their money, now their health is probably (hopefully not) at stake, but whatever it is, they can still make music in one form or another, and they have their friends and family. I don't think there's any discussion beyond that. I don't think conquering the world is on the agenda.

I'd like to know what's on their minds as far as the future of the band and Ed's health and hopefully, the manuevering that's been taking place will lead up to some sort of announcement in the near future. At this point, though, I can't place a bet on anything that Van Halen will do. Expect the unexpected.
Could this be magic?

I wonder if they will apologize for the delay at any point. Also, if (yeah, right) we ever get a new album, I wonder if it will say anything about "thanks to the fans", and if so how will that make us feel.

I think you make an excellent point in that if this resolves itself in a way that pleases us, we're almost surely going to fall right back into forgiving this whole long mess.

Going to send this to the Opinions for for further discussion.
