Default Any Stryper fans out there?

Stryper's got a new CD coming out today entitled Reborn; the first all new material from these guys since '91 or so, I believe.
I preordered my copy from their website and got it yesterday (it comes with an autographed bible like the ones they give out at their shows...Mine's got Oz Fox's signature, cool little bonus!), and I must say it's a really good rock disc! It'll take a few spins to grow on you, but the quality and musicianship shine through in the songs.
It's definately not the same Stryper of the 80's! The sound is completely modern, and Michael's voice isn't quite at the ball-busting level of days gone past! One thing missing that I myself miss are the dual guitar harmonies and shred solos. There are a few sprinkled about here and there, but the solos are secondary to the songs on this disc.
The songs are very strong, the harmonies are pure Stryper. Nobody had harmonies like these guys! There's still a little cheese thrown in here and there; but it's not overpowering, and doesn't detract from the overall listening experience. There's a good mixture of rocking songs and ballads, and the ballads are no way near as syrupy and sugary as they used to be. The Christian lyrics are still strong, but you can appreciate the songs without being beaten in the head with the message.
I still can't get over their new sound...I love the guitar tone! They needed to modernize their sound, and I think (IMO) they did a great job.
Anybody remotely interested in Stryper should definately check this disc out; but as I said earlier don't expect the Stryper of old, because this is an entirely different sounding band now.
    Great rock record, highly recomended!

Is anyone else at all slightly offended by an autographed Bible?

Did these 4 actually write the book? Does the drummer still play sideways?

You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.

Cool, forgot they were putting out new material. I will have to go pick up the CD, of course after I ask my wife

As for an autographed Bible...I don't really see a problem with that. Heck, even my Bible I got from my church when I went through confirmation was signed by the pastor and someone else. Don't see a problem with a member of Stryper signing it. Now if it was Motley Crue or Marilyn Manson signing the Bible, I might have to think twice about the whole thing.

I think as far as cheesy Hair Metal embarassments go, they were as good
as anybody. I actually have a couple guilty pleasures of their's in my iPod:
"In God We Trust" and "Caught in the Middle", although I filed them under
"Cheese Bots", cause I couldn't live with seeing "Stryper" in my "artists"
    list.
File this one under stuff you're embarassed to like.

PS - Sideways drums! : "I'm too beautiful to be hidden behind a kit."

Saw that too...It says on Stryper's website that the next pressing of the CD will be correct. Guess it'll be a cool little collectors item.

Makes you wonder how things like that happen? Somebody was asleep at the wheel...Kind of like the BOBW screw-up.

I might check it out.....I saw stryper on their reunion tour a few years back. And I gotta say....the show was amazing! Oz and Michael can harmonize on the guitars with the best of them. Its odd that Tim Gaines isn't on the new album, though. Anyone know why???

Um, the thread was an open-ended question. Am I a fan? Categorically, no,
but I had something to say and I'll post wherever I like. Lighten up.
I'm too pretty for this thread.

Tim left the group to pursue music with his wife Irene Kelly.

They got a good guy named Tracy to replace him and it sounds really good.

I am going to see them in Charlotte on the 30th of October.

Default Stryper to cover VH on new album!!

Stryper have announced they are releasing a covers album in the US Summer. They have recorded 10 songs by their fave bands/influences. Van Halens "On fire" is on the list, aswell as Judas Priests "Breaking the law", Iron Maidens "The Trooper". Other bands covered are Sweet, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Scorpians, Deep purple, UFO and Kansas.
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

Ive read the track listing and its pretty cool actually. Alot of people hate on Stryper because of the christian thing but they're great musicians and a great band. I generally think cover albums are boring and pointless but im actually pretty interested to hear this one.
