Default Jokerman- The Bob Dylan Thread!

I did a quick search and nothing came up. NOTHING! Unreal...

Please give your thoughts on the most gifted lyricist of ALL TIME! The Great Bob Dylan....

I'll simply leave you with this....

"Come mothers and fathers throughout the land.
And don't criticize what you can't understand.
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command.
Your old road is rapidly aging.
Please get out a new one
If you can't lend your hand,
For the times they are a changing."

Almost makes me want to cry....

Linkers, put them here... the most prophetic words you love the most from the best of all time. Mr. Bob Dylan...
"It doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you..." -Neil Young

"The sun's not yellow, it's chicken." -Bob Dylan

"If you go out and buy a Van Halen record and put it in your collection, it'll melt your other records." -David Lee Roth, 1981.

Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it's DULL, you twit!!! It'll HURT MORE!!!

    Default Hiway 61!!!!!

Will I reply to my own thread???... SURE!!!

The hysterical bride in the penny arcade.
Screaming she moans, "I've just been made"
Then sends out for the doctor who pulls down the shade,
Says, "My advice is to not let the boys in"

Now the medicine man comes and he shuffles inside.
He walks with a swagger and he says to the bride,
"Stop all this weeping, swallow your pride,
You will not die, it's not poison"
"It doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you..." -Neil Young

"The sun's not yellow, it's chicken." -Bob Dylan

"If you go out and buy a Van Halen record and put it in your collection, it'll melt your other records." -David Lee Roth, 1981.

Totally agree. I'm not even what you'd consider a huge fan, but if anybody ever asks me who the best lyricist in the history of music is, I say the conversation begins and ends with Bob Dylan!

    Picking some favorites, how about...

Well, the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much, it's doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker, he blows a futile horn.
    "Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

    or

Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press
Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess.
They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.
    I can't help it if I'm lucky.

    or

Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while

    or

Starry-eyed an' laughing as I recall when we were caught
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
As we listened one last time an' we watched with one last look
Spellbound an' swallowed 'til the tolling ended
Tolling for the aching ones whose wounds cannot be nursed
For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones an' worse
An' for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

    or

Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
    Suicide remarks are torn
    From the fool's gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
    Proves to warn
That he not busy being born
    Is busy dying

Great thread yez yez...I am a Dylan fan but most of the time I likes it when a band revs up one of his toons...like the White Stripes coverin',"Outlaw Blues," and "One More Cup Of Coffee,"(Percy Plant as well), the Stones coverin',"Like A Rollin' Stone," all the Hendrix Dylan covers, and so on an' so forth ad infinitim etc. etc.
ASHES TO ASHES...DUST TO DUST...IF THE WOMEN DON'T GET YA, THE WHISKEY MUST!!...

"I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints," he explained. 'The only thing that I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues. I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago, and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker."--DLR

If you pay attention -- what I sing, the guitar sings, too, and what the guitar says, I say.--Mississippi Fred McDowell

Only one man alive that should be covering Bob Dylan or the Rolling Stones...

    His name is Johnny Winter.

You're right on, loons. That entire album is pure genious!

God said to Abarham, "Kill me a son."
Abe said, "man, you must be puttin' me on."
God said, "No." Abe said, "What?"
God said, "You can to what you want Abe but...next time you see me comin, you better run".
Abe said, "Where you want this killin' done?"
God said, "Out on Hiway 61".

    Fucking GREAT!

    Fucking GREAT!

The one damned tune that I can quote, and this guy beats me to it!

I just love the imagery thrown out in that tune.

I suck at quoting lyrics...yet I'd recommend simply reading the words to "Tangled Up In Blue" or "You're A Big Girl Now".

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
    Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

I am thinking about getting this DVD, being an average Dylan fan, but I am a huge Scorsese fan so that may make it definite. Any of you seen it?
