Thanx. I'm using a plexi superlead 100w from -67 -68. Into a dummy load set at 18-19 ohm, then into a Power Brake. The amp's set at 8 ohm. The guitar is a homemade strat with a heavy ash body and a two peace maple neck. The pick up is a Seymore Duncan JB J

Simply amazing. That tone is right on. What are you using to get that sound? I just wish I couldn't hear Eddie's guitar with yours. I kind of hear both.

You can see that in a couple of posts above this one, but ok. The amp is a plexi superlead 100w from -67 -68. Into a dummyload set at 8 - 9 ohm, into a Power Brake set at 8 ohm. The cab is a 4x12 with 25 greenies ( bought around 88 - 90 ). The guitar is a home made strat with a heavy ash body and a two peace maple neck. The pick up is a Esymore Duncan JB J

That's probably the 3rd or 4th time I've heard excellent early-era VH tone from a JB pickup.

In the end, you've got the "tone fountain" (the low-gain, browned-out Marshall) and the accurate water supply (your hands/technique). That's most of the battle.

What's funny is that a JB typically has an upper-midrange "snarl" that isn't appropriate for VH. You've either dialed-it out, minimized it by browning your power tubes, have 250k pots, or something else that is minimizing it.

But like I said, it's not the first time I've heard a JB sound great in capable hands. You sound fantastic.

Huh, it's probably the real Wolfgang Van Halen on his Dad's gear.
Seriously, great job dude. Keep up the good work! Have you ever played to the "Jam with Van Halen" C.D. (I believe thru jamtrax)?
What other guitarists do you get in to?

He said he`s using a JB jr not a full size JB so that might have something to do with it. Opps , He said JB J so U assumed he meant JB jr .

Well it says JB J on the back side of the pick up, so... BTW, Thanx everybody for the great compliments, guys. It really makes me feel welcome. I never heard of any Van Halen Jam cd, but hwo knows... I really like theJB J, and there's nothing more to it than the ordanary pot ( 500 k, no tone control ). Eh... how does one browning up the tubes? That's a new one...

    There's nothing "new" about it.

"Browning" up one's tubes is merely running the power tubes to their max, which is exactly what you're intentionally doing.

It dramatically lowers the high-end of one's tone, and flattens-out the EQ curve. Or "EQs Flat", per Eddie's words.

You're basically copying his bottom-line effect, albeit by taking a different route.

(he flattened his EQ by plugging his Plexi into his VariAC that was browned-down to 85 volts or so)
