Default VH Fan who Passed in R.I. fire

I was at work yesterday and a sales rep came in for a visit. About 15 minutes into her meeting with my boss she asked who had the Van Halen license plate on their car in the parking lot. My boss introduced her to me and she told me how her son was a huge Vh fan and that he died in the Station night club fire. From what she told me about him it just moved me. He has been to Cabo 3 times, countless concerts and all kinds of memorabilia. I just thought I would post the name of the website here that is dedicated to him and maybe his memory would live on a little further. I never knew this guy but he had something in common with all of us. VAN HALEN
    The web site is www.ryan-fest.com
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, you almost feel like you know someone when you see that they were as passionate about something as you are. Very sad...

That was pretty touching. A very nice rememberance site and great tribute to what seems to have been a really cool guy.

Not sure if you saw this or not, but his Mom wrote a letter to the VH camp and is summarized below:

My neice, Karen, in Texas had contacted Van Halen about The Station Fire and the loss of one of their greatest fans, Ryan.Shortly after, I e-mailed VH and asked for their help in stepping up to the plate to speak out against the use of pyrotechnics. I forwarded information on the victims and articles, pictures and thanked them for the items, but hoped they would, somehow, speak out for this cause. As yet, knowing they have been out of circulation for awhile, I have not heard anything. Both Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony sent condolences and a valuable collectible in memory of Ryan. Eddie sent one of his first promo pictures that was signed to Ryan. Michael sent his personal promo 33 1/3 record of Dreams, as I told VH that was the song we played at the celebration for Ryan. Unfortunately, and ironically, the record arrived broken through Fedex. If you know the words to the song, they say "standing on broken dreams".
Michael signed the back of the albumn as follows: "I'm sorry that this arrives to late for Ryan's life celebration, but I did not hear about or read your e-mail until today. Reading that our song "Dreams" was to be the exiting song at the celebration, I remembered that I had this copy of the single, and I wanted you to have it. (As part of the rememberance of Ryan) I can't tell you how sad it makes me feel that because of someone's
negligence and ignorance, a tragic event like this could happen. My sincere condolences - I know Ryan's up there rockin VH Style!!!"

I made a colored copy of both items and placed them both in with Ryan's ashes. I know how much VH meant to him over the years, and I just know that Michael is right - Ryan is rockin VH style with some of the best!!!!!

    MOM
Very cool of Mike and Ed.

Moving to main in memory of Ryan.

I have been working flat out since 8.00 this morning (it's now 1740 here) working on issues for a major newspaper company (I work in Telecoms)...after all the crap from today - (and most other days) I always take a look to see what's going on here at the Links.....

I never thought I'd be looking at a site like that today - putting things in perspective is an understatement and with a lump in my thoat I just want get home and see my kids......

Someone said earlier - it feels like we've lost one of our own....damn straight!

    Good on Ed & Mike

Take it easy Ryan - tell Jimi to tune his damn guitar!
Ed: Actually, the last record I bought was by a band called Brand X
Al: I make my living by viciously attacking something
    Mike: ...actually I don't drink.
    Sammy: Are these yours Eddie?
Dave: Look at that ankle - dirty girl!

Thats cool Seenbad. When I talked to her yesterday she talked about the letter and about meeting Sammy as well. She also told me a story about one of her sons friends that went hiking after he died. He and his girlfriend were walking along a path when they spotted a large white butterfly. They decided to follow it for a while and when it came to a stop it landed infront of a large rock with the VH sigh spray painted on it. They were able to take a picture of it and gave it to her. They felt it was a sign from Ryan that he will always be with them.

A true tragedy. It's nice that Ryan's family has so many supportive people around them.

wow. That is a mom that is doing all she can to keep her son's spirit alive isn't she. The site and the golf tourney for charity. I'm glad Ed and Mike sent those gifts to his family. How amazing that the recording of Dreams arrived broken. Almost gives you the shivers doesn't it.

Is it just me, or does guy looks eerily like Joey from Friends in a couple of those pictures?

Good to see the show of support from Ed and Mike.

Very cool story, thanks for sharing.

Extremely touching! That fire was a real eye-opener for me. Every time I am at a bar like that watching a band I always think how anything can happen to anyone at anytime. I am really glad to see they received a response from Mike and Ed. Fantastic. I wonder if Ryan was a VH Links member? Talk about putting things in perspective....

It's too bad when anyone dies young like that. I'm sorry to hear that...

I wish his family the best during the worst of times.

Yeah, I feel the same way. He more than likely saw this site, as big a fan as he was. It makes me wonder if he posted and what other thoughts he had when he was with us. What a sad outcome to a life full of future.
    Just go for it!
