Default Most Underrated 70's Hard Rockin Album?

I fly Southwest (too) often and came across "The Underrated List" that they came up with and put in their monthly (July) magazine, Spirit.

Van Halen's debut album was listed as the most underrated Hard Rockin' '70s album.

    Here's what they said:

"Revisionist common knowledge tells us that The Clash's "London Calling" was the greatest album of the 70's. But Van Halen's revolutionary 1978 debut was bigger, faster, stronger, and way more influential. It sold five times more copies than London Calling. It gave us "Ice Cream Man". Half its tracks still rock the radio every day in this country. Why do you think when Michael J. Fox played music from the future in Back to the Future he blasted an "Eruption" -style solo?"

And to that, I say AMEN!

    AMEN!

Shit, I must be in the wrong universe. I thought that VH along with Led Zep IV were considered the best rock albums of the 70's.

Can I hear another Amen brothers and sisters!

So, VH has one album out in the 70's and it's one of the top albums of the decade. That in itself is a legendary start. Then to have some of the best albums span three decades, very few bands can even fit into this category, and you could probalby count them on your fingers.

Default I saw the same article

I recently flew on Southwest and saw the same article. a co-worker of mine who is roughly the same age as me was sitting next to me and made the comment that she liked "pre DLR" VH. I kinda laughed, but she was serious and insisted DLR was not the singer on their first albums. Not until we got back to the office and she looked it up online was she convinced she was full of $hit, although I've known it for quite some time now...

I'm suprised when you see these decade specials on VH1, they don't focus on the hysteria VH created in 78. I buddy of mine who I work with was in college at the time of VH's debut, and said the whole campus was on fire for VH!!
