Default Rust Festival '05: A Recreation of the Us Festival

Brett, you hear about this? I was at the Scorpions show last night in Costa Mesa, lots of people were hypin' about it. They're really gonna recreate the US Fest with tribute bands at the Nos Center in San Bernardino on September 24. Eleven hours of metal tribute bands, including Fireball (Deep Purple), TNT (AC/DC), Mini Kiss (a midget tribute to Kiss...not making this up), Led Zepagain, Children of the Beast (Motley Crue), Blackout (the Scorpions), Crazy Train (Ozzy), the Iron Maidens (female Maiden band), Metal Gods (Judas Priest) and of course, the Atomic Punks for Van Halen. They're also gonna have a record convention, an air guitar showcase, heavy metal karaoke, and a hotrod show onsite.

I gotta think it's worth going alone just to see the Kiss little people. But if they really wanna recreate that black magick Us vibe, they better make sure to fill the porta-potties in advance with overflowing human waste, it better be 110 degrees, and Ralph better get gonzo-snockered beforehand.

If the promoters have $50.00, I'm sure they could get Mark Goodman to play himself.

Here's a flyer some dude was passing out last night after the show. Even the 'RUST' logo is styled after the original Us slogan. LOL, what some people won't do to revisit their youth...er...ahem. (cough). Not that Van Halen fans would know anything about that.

I think that's why Scott just called me to update the Punks' calendar.

Sounds kinda of funny, I don't think it's necessarily lame. It's a cool idea I guess. The bands should play the same set lists as the real bands did.

I'm all for a tribute band fest, I wasn't sure about recreating the Us Fest. But why not - it's an excuse to rock, sure. The mini-Kiss bit is a little sideshow-esque, though. And won't air guitar champions be eaten alive by the kind of crowd who'd attend?

I've seen mini-Kiss perform on VH1. Just a short snippet, so I didn't know they lip synched. Boy, that's it...I'm not supporting them.

Haha, that's pretty damn cool right there. I'm with Brett. The bands should just play the same set list as the original band's played that day. Should be cool.
