    EVH thanked on Dokken record

Guitarist Reb Beach (replaces George Lynch on this album) thanks EVH on the Erase The Slate album, released 1999. "Edward Van Halen, who told me that solos are better when they're not punched". Anyone ever know of this? any thoughts?

Hey.. I'll agree with EVH.. I used to punch in solos so that I could just concentrate on doing "the solo", but it sounds too.. well.. fake... so just doing the solo on the spur of the moment is much much better... and yes.. anyone that picks up a guitar these days should thank EVH for what he did, and hopefully still does.

Early on Eddie may not have punched in, but he sure did later!

He did in the early days too. Feel Your Love Tonight is one right of the top of my head. I agree though, his best solo's are the one's that he played live with Al and Mike. Those are always the best.

He didn't say he never did it, just that the unpunched solos are better.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

    *interesting fact*

there is a spoken part that opens the 'Erase the Slate' CD that goes something like this (in comedy voice):

    'I've done one already
    and my name's not Eddie
    in Van Halen'

it's kind of similar to a John Bonham spoken intro to one of the Led Zep songs - might be The Ocean, but I could be wrong.

Right, now I need to get out more...
