    Default Let's talk Dokken

Over the last few months I've become a big Dokken fan, I have The Very Best Of Dokken, Dysfunctional, Shadowlife, Erase The Slate and One Live Night. Older stuff is hard to find, and I'm wondering if "Hell To Pay" is any good. Any thoughts on the band, George or Don?

To me, Dokken was as talented of a band as Ratt. They had the talent but did not have the identity of Van Halen. Well, no one did.
My fav's of Dokken are: It's Not Love, Kiss of Death, Standing In the Shadows, In My Dreams, Mr. Scary, Tooth and Nail, Just Got Lucky, and a song that I played in a band over and over again: Into the Fire.
    Lynch Mob was stellar too!
    Just go for it!

Saw Dokken twice on Monsters Of Rock, and Lynch by himself a few months back, he always delivers. I remember at Monsters he just stood of to the side and played and totally ignored Don, I remember he used to say in interviews that Eddie would give him shit on the Monsters tour about not getting along with Don on stage, he used to tell him he couldn't stand Dave for years, but to never let it show in front of the fans on stage..

Didn't really like "Hell To Pay". Time has not been kind to Dons voice. The album is very bland - Dokken nowadays is just a shadow of their former selves.

Love "Back For The Attack" - one of the great 80s hard rock albums.

I saw Dokken live two years ago. They were good.

The Hunter is probably my favorite Dokken song.

I'm a big Dokken fan but the sound just isn't the same without Lynch on guitars. Back for the Attack is a killer album and so is Dysfunctional. It's like "here we left off and here we begin again" even it was for just a short time (reunion). Don has a very good voice but the times have passed and bands like Dokken cannot survive as well as they used to. Lynch Mob stuff is great too but it is Lynch's solo album that really blows me away.

Worked security at a Dokken/Whitesnake/Scorpions gig out here a few years ago. He put on a great show and his voice held up very well.

Seemed to be a pretty personable guy as well, in spite of everything that's been said about him in the past.

Then again, I didn't have to be in a band with him.

The Scorps, on the other hand...Klaus Meine was a nice guy. The rest of the band were fucking pricks.

Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Loved all the dokken stuff with exception to Shadow life and the new one Hell To Pay, to me shadow was a bad experiment and Hell To Pay is bland and boring ....

The dokken record that really surprised me was Erase The Slate, Reb Beach does are awesome job on that CD, well worth a listen. They where on there way back I thought with that record, but once Reb and pislon left things went way down hill for Dokken for me.

Man, do I feel old. I don't know anym of these. I guess it is just not Dokken to me w/o Lynch. Or Pilson for that matter. I still listen to these (any of which you can find on Amazon, by the way):
    Tooth and Nail
    Under Lock and Key
    Back For the Attack
    Beast From the East

Remember that cheesey song they did for one of the Nightmare On Elm Street movies? Dream Warriors?

MY feelings are Dokken are uninspiring, very inconsistant, and very cheesy.

George Lynch is a fine guitarist but the rest of the band IMO was very lacking. No one else in the band seemed to feed off the energy that George played through his guitar. While Dokken has a couple of good songs i find most of their material bland.

You'll have a nice riff from Lynch and then it happens. Don Dokkens totally weak voice comes in and basically ruins the music.

In the early 80s I went to a Dio gig which Dokken was the opener. I had never heard of them. It was their Tooth and Nail tour. After hearing Lynch do the intro called Without Warning, I was hooked. Bought the album the very next day. Still like to crank now and then A tune called Alone Again from that same album is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated rock ballads. Lynch's solo rawks

I'm listening to Mr. Scary as I type this. I'm a HUGE Lynch/Dokken fan. As much as Sam gets ripped around here for his lyrics, IMO Don is even worse! I listen to Dokken primarily for George Lynch. The tone, the attack, the rhthyms, the everything. The guy is amazing to me, and my second favorite guitar player. As far as favorites go, The Hunter, Burning Like A Flame, and Into The Fire are a few just off the top of my head. Lynch/Pilson is the business too. A must have for any rock fan.

I don't care about Dokken, I only like a few of their songs. If they never made another album or toured again that is cool with me.

LOL, Yankee, I just had to get you back for the Aerosmith slam the other day

Speaking of Dokken and Aerosmith, I saw Dokken open for Aerosmith on the PV tour in 1987 and as they took the stage Don Dokken ran out and immediately tripped over his mike stand, ruffling his purple glitter jacket. It was hilarious, what a tool that guy is. I felt bad for George Lynch, he is so outstanding and Don isn't.

Back For the Attack is killer all the way through, great songs, some cheesy lyrics, but so what, that was the 80's....MR SCARY rocks....

Under Lock and Key is cool too.
