Default You know you are from Chicago if......

1)You know what the phone number for Empire Carpet is!
2)Your living room is called the "front room." (pronounced fronchroom)
3)You don't pronounce the "s" at the end of Illinois,
and you become irate at people who do.
4)You measure distance in minutes (especially "from the city"), and
everything is pretty much 15 minutes away.
5)You have no problem spelling or pronouncing "DesPlaines."
6)Your school classes were canceled because of the cold weather.
7)Your school classes were canceled because of the hot weather.
8)You've switched from heat to air conditioning in the same day.
9)Your grocery stores don't have sacks; they have bags.
10)You end your sentences with prepositions: "Where's my coat at?" or "If
you go to the mall, I wanna go with," or "Come by and pick me up."
11)Your idea of a great sandwich is when the meat is twice as big as the
bun, it has everything on it, and a slice of dill pickle is on the side.
12)You always carry jumper cables in your car.
13)You drink "pop," not soda or even worse "coke."
    14)You understand that I-290, I-90, I-94, and I-294 are all different
    highways.
15)You know the names of the interstates: Stevenson, Kennedy, Eisenhower,
Dan Ryan, and the Edens, but you call them all "expressways."
16)You refer to anything south of I-80 as "Southern Illinois."
17)You refer to Lake Michigan as "The Lake."
18)You refer to Chicago as "The City."
19)The "Super Bowl" refers to one specific game in a series of 35 played
    in January of 1986.
    20) No matter where you are, when you hear the term "Downtown," you
immediately assume they're talking about downtown Chicago.
    21) You have two favorite football teams: The Bears,
and anyone who beats the Packers!
    22)You read "The Trib."
23)You drive to the North suburbs by taking "The Outer Drive" even though
    no such road exists.
24)You think 35 degrees is great weather to wash your car!
You know what goes on a Chicago Style Hot Dog.
25)You know what Chicago Style Pizza REALLY is.
26)You know why they call Chicago "The Windy City."
    27)You understand what "lake-effect" means.
28)You know the difference between Amtrak and Metra, and know which
station they end up at. (Do note the preposition.)
    You ride the "L."
29)You can distinguish among the following area codes: 847, 630, 773,
    708, 312, & 815.
30)You respond to the question "Where are you from with a "side."
Example:"WEST SIDE," "SOUTH SIDE," or "NORTH SIDE."
31)You wear gym shoes, not sneakers.
    32) You have at some time in your life, used your
furniture to guard your parking spot in winter.
    33) Every year is the Cubs, Sox, or Bears year. And never ends up being that way

    Default Fuck yeah!

Number Two is my favorite. Whenever I say that to people who aren't from here, they always look confused and say "Do you mean the 'living room' "?

Now where are my gym shoes at?

    Hahaha

LOL. I miss livin' up by the city. Wenlived a 15 min walk from the train to downtown. Loved it. Hub's family is from Elmhurst and we moved from southern IL (Springfield hahahahahaha) anything S of Chicago is southern IL. To Willowbrook, then to Bolingbrook before moving here. I still get grief for having a pop. And it's not the Stevenson btw it's the Damn Stevenson. Or it always was in our car. Aww the proper Chicago dog, poppy seed bun, tomato wedges, salt, pepper, sport peppers, onion, bright green pickle relish, ketsup, no mustard and aw crap what's the name of that brand of hot dog... damn.

    This is too true. LOL
#2 is the worst. (Sunday we were sweating with 107 degrees, and Monday night it was 65 degrees.) The city temps are always a bit cooler in the spring and warmer in the fall than the burbs' due to the lake's temp. Maybe the weather is why we're all a bit unstable here.

    "800-588-2300, EMPIIIIIIIIIRE!"

Great list. So many of those are true to me its ridiculous. After I moved here it took my family and I forever to get used to referring to Chicago as nothing but "Downtown."

The hot dogs are Vienna beef. And by the way, they are the worst hot dogs I've ever had. Tough little hot dogs. I might be the only person in Chicagoland that thinks Jean & Judes blows. You want a real hot dog, go to a baseball game if you're in Chicago. The only people who think Chicago style hot dogs are good are those from Chicago, and luckily I'm not originally from here.

I think this list is surely missing something:

you know you're from Chicago when......

You drool at the mention of the word "Portillo's"

Now some fantastic Chicago Italian Beef is right up my alley. Nothing better than having that meat in the soaked, greasy bun that's falling apart. I have a beef at least once a week! Hell, I just had one for dinner on Monday night, along with a pizza puff and a tamale. Portillo's is good, but I enjoy those shitty one off places much more, where they don't even have seats, and no more than 5 or 6 people can fit inside. Those places are always the best! Susie's on Montrose off Keeler, Satchel's on Cermak off Ogden, awww yeah, two of my favorite places.

LOL! It's funny that almost that whole list makes sense to me and I've never even BEEN to Chicago. When I was a kid, WGN was part of our cable package and I picked a lot of that stuff up from there...

I'm much more partial to Gino's East and Connie's myself! Not a big fan of the Taste myself. I just don't find it terribly appealing to stand in 100 degree heat with someone I don't know sweating all over me whilst attempting to eat one of those sick chicken legs.

Ah, but that's the whole charm of the Taste. Gorging on fat foods among thousands of people in the extreme heat. I'm getting nausiated just thinking about it.

Has anyone been to the lovely Northerly Island Amplitheater? I saw Journey there on July 16. The accoutsics could have been better, but for a temporary venue, it wasn't bad. The lake breeze was nice since the temps were up there. Not too bad to get in and out of, either, despite the 65,000 at Soldier's Field next door for a soccer game. Chicago always has a million things going on in the summer. Never a dull day.
