    Default Opinion or Fact?

I’m more of a listener then a talker, however, I’m tired of all the DLR vs Sam crap that gets flung around here. Its great for people to have differing opinions, I’m sure that not everyone will agree with me and that is fine, but when statements become illogical and childish it makes the argument invalid. If someone likes DLR better then Sammy then that is fine, there is no need to try and turn an opinion into fact. An “OPINION” is just that, an opinion not “FACT”. DLR era fans need to accept that Sammy was and maybe still is a singer in VH “FACT”. DLR was the original front man for VH “FACT. Eddie is the music behind VH “FACT”. Both DLR and Sammy era VH was musically and commercially successful “FACT”.
Now when we start throwing “OPINIONS” around as “FACTS” is when any legitimate discussion turns rotten. To saw that DLR is a better lyricist then Sammy is only an “OPINION” not a “FACT”. In my opinion both DLR and Sammy can write some very shallow meaningless uninspired lyrics like “Drop Dead Legs” Great song, love the song but it would be very difficult to convince me the lyrics are great, just as Sammy’s lyrics in “Summer Nights” are juvenile but a great song non-the-less.
On the other hand they both have some pretty deep lyrics “Mean Street” and “Feeln’” Again both great songs IMO with very inspired lyrics again IMO.
My main point is stop passing of “OPINIONS” as “FACTS”. Have fun discussing and arguing “OPINIONS” but stop disrespecting people who have different “OPINIONS”.
Again my “OPINION” is a true VH fan likes (maybe not equally) both eras maybe all three eras at least for the music and respects all three eras for the music.

    Drop dead legs, pretty smile,
hurts my head, gets me wild.
    Dig that steam, giant butt,
makes me scream, I get nuh-nuh-nothing but the shakes over you
And nothing else could ever do.
You know that you want it.
    I know what it is.
You know that you want it, baby,
When the night is through, will I still be loving you ?
    Dig those moves, vam-pire
set me loose, get it higher.
    Throw my rope, loop-de-loop
    nice white teeth, Betty Boop.
    Set it cool real heavy.
    I ain't fooled, gettin' ready.

Ain't no way I'm stayin' home tonight
I'll be out until the mornin' light
Just hangin' 'round the local parking lot
Checkin' out the girls see what they got
Yea they love it when me and the boys
Start playin' love with them human toys
Yea we just wind 'em up and let 'em go, oh yea
    Summer nights and my radio
That's all we need baby don't cha know
We celebrate when the the gang's all here
Hot summer nights that's my time of the year
We made it through the cold
This freezin' snow is gettin' really old
Next year I'll head out for the coast
Say boys I think that might just call for a toast, yea
I got a line, you got a pole
I'll meet you down at the ole fishing hole
Yea them girls are biting good tonight
Oh yea, uh oh, oh yea

At night I walk this stinkin' street
Past the crazies on my block
And I see the same old faces
And I hear that same old talk
And I'm searching for the latest thing
    A break in this routine
    I'm talkin' some new kicks
Ones like you ain't never seen
    This is home
    This is Meanstreet
    It's our home
    The only one I know
And we don't worry 'bout tomorrow
Cause we're sick of these four walls
Now what'd ya think is nothing
    Might be something after all
Now you know this ain't no through street
    The end is dead ahead
The poor folks play for keeps down here
    They're the living dead
    Come on down
    Down to Meanstreet
    They're dancing now
    Out on Meanstreet
It's always here and now, my friend
It ain't once upon a time
It's all over but the shouting
    I'll come and I'll take what's mine
We're searching for the latest thing
    A break in this routine
    Talkin' some new kicks
Ones like you ain't never seen
    This is home
    This is Meanstreet
    It's our home
    Only one I know
(This is home) See, a gun is real easy
(This is Meanstreet) In this desperate part of town
(This is home) Turns you from hunted into hunter
(This is Meanstreet) Go and hunt somebody down
(This is home) But hear me now, somebody said "Fair Warning, Lord !"
(This is Meanstreet) Lord, strike that poor boy down

    outta touch most the time
gotta lotta things on my mind
    kickin' down, where to start
    it's the hardest thing, oh.....
grow it long, shave it off
    life is hard, never soft
I need a change, I need it quick
    before it makes me sick
    that's what's on my mind
    pay attention, watch your back
pay your dues, stay on track
got no room to second guess
    puts me under stress, oh.....
if I were you, you were me
I wonder who I'd wanna be
with just one wish you can't refuse
I wouldn't know what to choose
feelin', don't like what I've been told I'm feelin'
feelin' what no one else will ever know I'm feelin', oh....
now black is white and white is black
    got politicians smokin' crack
    and John Paul's all bullet-proofed
it puts me through the roof, yea....
I were you and you were me
I wonder who I'd rather be
if I had one wish I'd, take it
feelin', don't like what I've been told I'm feelin'
and I'm seein' what no one else will ever know I'm seein'
come on, feelin' hey, I don't understand these things I'm feelin', no....
    outta touch most the time
too many things on my mind
shuttin' down, gotta stop this thing
feelin', I don't like what I've been told I'm feelin'
I'm bleedin' no one else will ever know I'm bleedin'
dealin'....I'm dealin' with these things I'm feelin'
I'm dreamin', I'm dreamin', I'm dreamin' things that show me what
    I'm seein'
seein'... I'm seein' things that I don't know I'm feelin'
    I've been feelin', I'm feelin', I'm feelin' things that I don't know
    I don't know, In don't know what I'm seein'
    hey, I don't understand

It's all good...just don't drink the Kool-Aid from across the street and you'll be alright...

"20 minutes (late to work)? Shit. Last year I woke up three weeks too late.
My advice is to go for the alien abduction story. Look bemused, dishevelled and on the verge of tears as you recount your story of intrusive and degrading medical tests.
Worked for me anyway. I still have colleagues asking me what it is like to fuck a green womanoid with seventeen breasts.
Alternatively just walk in and inform everyone that alcoholism is indeed a disease and that they should be less judgemental and perhaps a little more supportive."

"something tells me that after the nuclear holocaust, there'll be twinkies, cockroaches, and a dave vs. sammy argument going on somewhere".

I think you'll find many that will agree with you. After a while, you have to learn to accept it and either not read the posts or pick your battles. There will always be drama here because some people like the drama. The Dave v. Sammy thing--ug; before 1996 it didn't seem to matter as much, did it? It just barrels down to a lot of bored people. That's not a slam on anyone in particular, just my opinion.

Like I've said before, VH needs to change their name to "TNT"--they know drama.

Outside of that, there's a lot of great people on this board.
How open-minded do I have to be before my brains start spilling out?

Amen brother. I am so glad that someone had the balls to show that. Lyrics are justa as good as the music behind them. If you are a singer you pay more attention to the lyrics. If you are a guitar player you listen more to the guitar, etc. etc. Feel the song for what it is, a place in time that you will always remember when you first heard it.

    Default Opinion or Fact?

You don't have to quote the lyrics to all of your favorite =VH= songs in your sig, bud.

Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...
