Default Extra New Haven '86 footage

Not sure if this is availabe or not but here goes...

I think MTV shot some footage of the New Haven '86 concert (LWAN) for a promo and I was wondering if anyone has seen this or something similar?

Might not have been MTV. Is there another video/dvd boot of this available?

A friend was working security there and is begging for footage that he swears he saw on MTV or some other newscast from '86.

    Maybe a boot?

MTV Broadcasted Love Walks In and Best Of Both Worlds live when that concert was being taped. No extra footage that I am aware of was shown on TV. I remember watching it live when it aired.

However, extra footage exists somewhere. They filmed both nights and edited them together. Somewhere out there are versions of Wild Thing, Jump, Good Enough and Dreams. Probably a couple of others too.

If you watch the end credits there's a weird clip where Eddie is tremelo picking and no one else is playing except Eddie. And Sammy says "Eddie you're cheatin' again". What the hell is this??? You can see the crowd in the background. I have always wondered what that was. Maybe it was during Eruption on the night that was not released on video.

By the way ... I just found a CD of that concert that was released by "Concert Series" (I suppose a Westwood One company). It was at a used CD shop near where I work. It has a real album cover and everything. It is titled Van Halen Live 1986. It is a recording of Live Without a Net. They omitted the drum solo, bass solo and Best Of Both Worlds. I paid $20 for it used just to have it. Interesting.

MTV did air a whole special called "Unleashed", with clips from LWAN and a good amount of backstage video.

Did they really do dreams? I dont think so. I have the full show on audio and the only extra stuff i had was Good Enough and Wild Thing. Thats it! Dreams wasnt a hit yet so it was pointless to do, and im still tryin ta figure out why they didnt do Jump. Thats my knowledge of the extra stuff of LWAN

No, they did do Dreams. Ed had the guitar on and played keys. For the solo he played his guitar then switched back to keys. Ask Sucka, if anything he would know more than I do.

At the end of ATBL, Ed & Sam would have a "duel" where they traded off licks. They did this every night.

By this point in the tour, "Jump" was not played. You Really Got Me, Dreams, Good Enough were edited out for whatever reason. "Wild Thing" was played as an encore although it is not known which night. "Wild Thing", "Good Enough" & a different version of "Rock & Roll" ended up being broadcast as part of the radio version of the show.

I have a bunch of boots from 5150 tour and I was there. They do play Dreams. I have Wild Thing from the New Halen show on tape. Incredible solo, great overall version. We've got to find it.

I'm particularly interested in the guitar solo portion that MTV taped (if they did).

Anyone recall seeing this footage on the "Unleashed" special from '86 ?

If it exists, you'll see one the security guards turn around and look at Ed. Then Ed smiles at the security guy or something like that.

    anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

During "Best Of Both Worlds," they segue into a verse from Robert Palmer's "Addicted To Love," which was a big hit at that time. Kind of a fun thing they did live back then. Obviously, it was edited out of the Live Without A Net video due to copyright restrictions - most likely, they would have to have paid a fee to use it on a commercial release.

They played Dreams at almost every show on that tour, if not everyone. LWAN is only 90 min. long, and the typical 5150 show was about 2 1/2 hours. There's an hour of stuff left out of the video, and Wild Thing and Good Enough aren't the only things left out.

Also, that extra soloing they show Eddie doing at the end is not part of Eruption. At the 5150 shows, Eddie and Sammy did a sort of dueling guitar solo during the show for about 5 min., and that was actually part of that.

I have the Unleashed special and that footage has nothing to do with LWAN. Those shows were not in New Haven. I think one of them is from LA. Here's what I think is missing from the LWAN shows:

    You Really Got Me
    Dreams
"Addicted To Love" in Best Of Both Worlds
    Good Enough
Eddie's extended guitar solo (316 & Blues Jam)
Extended Guitar Jam after ATBL (some included on credits)
    Wild Thing

I believe MTV Aired a live version of Best Of Both Worlds on one of the MTV Video Music Award Shows (I'm assuming 1986) that did include Addicted To Love. Anybody got that?

I'll second that. I've ALWAYS wanted the video of the stuff that was edited out.
