    Default ROCK STAR: Van Halen

Maybe we should just pack in the VH camp and sell out. Next on the Fall Programing Schedule:

    ROCK STAR: Van Halen

Let someone else pick the singer, maybe THEY can cet it right!
She got a doorbell sign that said:
"bring it or don't ring it."

you laugh, but im hoping every day that this happens.
this would be perfect on so many levels and any network would have a windfall by airing it.
can u imagine the ratings for this?
3 nights a week of VH??
this would culminate in an extroardinary record and tour...
and lots and lots of money for all involved..
    im dead serious

I was afraid to post this cuz I thought I'd get flamed out of here, but I really think this would be a great idea. HOWEVER, I just can't see Ed agreeing to do this.

Well, let me be the first then to flame. Maybe I have an overinflated sense of VH, but legendary bands should not have to rely on gimmicks or nolvelties. Could you imagine Zepplin hosting a "Who wants to be our next drummer?" reality show? How about a "Tour with the Stones as our next bass player?" I would probably throw up if something like this ever happened. VH would just become a punchline in the world of Rock and Roll. I would rather see them retire with some dignity.

    And thank god.

What INXS is doing is just embarrassing. Not that I care, certainly not a band that means anything to me. But if I was a fan, I'd find it pretty lame.

Just funny to have to listen to someone like the keyboardist in INXS critique people's musical ability. Dude you're lucky to have a gig at this point. You should be off playing with Colin Hay somewhere.

Me and a budy of mine were joking about this the other day. The ratings for this show are pretty bad, so it's doubtful that they do another one. My buddy said, "yeah, what are they going to do, Rockstar: Van Halen?" I just laughed and said, "no way Ed would ever do that. He would throw out every lead singer that tried out."

This would be so embrrassing. Like a trainwreck ya know. Talk about making a sad joke out of a great band.

I think the band is handling the whole concept with quite a bit of class. It could have easily gone south but it hasn't, IMHO. Yes, there is a certain cheese factor to the idea of making a contest of filling the shoes of a great singer and frontman, but I think the show and the band have handled the whole thing with style and grace...

    yeah, but talk about ratings!!
im looking at it from a purely selfish pov, admittedly.
i see it as a chance to see VH 3 night a wk on tv, watching them bicker and brawl, and to see ed play.
then we would be guaranteed a whole new album and a tour. that's my angle..the alternative seems to be to live in limbo and it looks worse everyday as if its over..and if VH would retire and do it the right way, id accept that..
but they dont..they play games ..or at least the press does..
And there's a huge difference here as well..
INXS NEEDS a good singer to continue to make a career...
VH only needs a body up there as a canvas on which Ed can play...they could pick a hot chick or the dude with the spiked mohawk, and im telling you, i wouldnt give a shit!!
and i think Ed could be inspired..
Short of the band or Ed actually doing what he should do, which is to call a press conference and either announce a farewell tour w/ Dave or the retirment of the band VH, and the beginnings of his solo project career w/ AL, Instead of what we are all used to, this is the best idea ive seen.
Think of it from a TV producer perspctive..and the sales dept...and do u think they would get some buzz about the new record?

Who WOULDNT make money on a deal like this?

Yeah, its undignified..i give you that..but im an addict, so i dont always care how i get my fix, just that i get it..

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to pose this question. Ultimately it would fail, just as Gary did. And in reality, I find it hard to believe that any of those idiots can replace Michael Hutchence. That guys voice was something else. We shall see...
