    Default How Dissappointing

i know i dont make the rules and all, and i realize you can respect them or go elsewhere, but how dissappointing is it to get a couple chick in a thread talking about giving head and where the load should go etc, and we have people asking them to cool it down?

Maybe we ought to revisit the band we are here to discuss and what their music is all about!!
VH aint no PG or even R band..and neither are its fans. if the thread is going well and noone is offended(if they are, they should leave the thread), then what is the harm?
to pretend that the teenagers are going to be corrupted or whatever is simply unrealistic ,IMHO.

Posting pics of explicit stuff would be fine if in a restricted forum, but this is words we are talking about...of course, i'd love to see pics as well...just PM me and i'll judge them...

i dont want to start a tidal wave, just voicing an opinion...

It was way over the line of good taste. Raunchy. Brew was doing just fine and Goo had a good point about one-offs etc being a thing of the culture, but not entire conversations/threads around taking a hit in the face or tits.

This topic should be in feedback, moving now.

Uh, just an old habit. This is obviously in good hands.

    what is feedback?
is there a place for this kind of thread?
if so, go ahead and move it.

i just disagree with the subjective nature of defining what is and isnt in "good taste".
if its not, usually everyone, or a majority will either say so or ignore the thread.
if it becomes a flamefest, that's one thing.
But for someone to just make a judgment is shaky at best for me.
let's have tolerance and self-responsibility. if you dont like or are offended, leave the thread..eh?

VH is a PG band. How many obscenities do you hear on the albums? How explicit are they? Not many and not very. It's an all-ages show, and so is this site. There are plenty of places out there for people to get their rocks off on the Internet. This doesn't have to be one of them. Quite a few of us spend a lot of time here, and have put a lot of hard work into the site. It should be something we can be proud of. It should be something we can show to friends and family members (of all ages) without having to explain the behaviors of certain people, or feeling that we have to warn folks about how some adults can't maintain a certain level of decorum.

The rules are purposely pretty vague here. A lot of trust is given to the user community when it comes to content, and it's a shame when certain people abuse that trust. It's about discretion.

From the main page, look down.

i just disagree with the subjective nature of defining what is and isnt in "good taste".
As well you can, and that's fine of course. At some point though, no matter how gray it is, it has to become somewhat defined. That definition comes from a judgement call by the mod. Mike explained why there is no set rule pretty well and I think that explains why a mod does what he does when he has to do it. At the point of really bad taste, it just has to stop. If it didn't, you'd have the army, and in a matter of days.

This conversation has taken place for years here. I think the policy, if there is one, has evolved to a pretty good place where it's just up to us to conduct ourselves in a way that is fun and in good taste....most of the time. A one off here and there makes for good character. A full thread on taking a cum-shot in the mouth or where you want to put one is just not within the character of what this site is. C'mon. You have to know that.

I'm with Brew. It was crossing the line. However, that is my opinion. But the mods gotta do what he's supposed to do. I for one am glad someone cracks the whip. If I want porn, I'll surf those.

Seen mentioning the Army brings to mind an important point. We've got an enlightened self-interest in keeping things at least somewhat on the up and up here. How many of us participate from work? Quite a few, obviously. Regardless of what our employers' policies are on personal use of their networks, they have control of those networks. More and more are using ISP-level filtering for things such as profanity, nudity, violence, and other forms of adult content. My workplace does that, and the Army is one of the sites that I can't access from work. It's not an uncommon concern; I know Brett's workplace does the same filtering, and I suspect the numbers on that will be growing as time goes on. Once the Links is on a list of 'bad' sites it becomes damn near impossible to have it taken off.

I'm just upset I seemed to have missed the thread. But have to admit that this is not a porn site. I think that if a questionable topic is going on there should be a disclaimer from a mod and the topic should continue. Not knowing what I was doing I clicked on a topic in non-music and came face to face with some guys ass...a warning would have been helpful.

Well, i will agree with Mike that Discretion is called for and i agree with the self-governing aspect, especially when you have a bunch of people who have similar sense of decorum.
I also agree that if left unchecked, we would have the army pretty fast..

But im such a free-speech sucker..i dont want to have that fight in this thread..a separate thread dedicated to that topic is fine, but not this thread.
I believe VH is PG in the end, but not in the beginning..With Dave, it was straight out "R" on record and plain old rock rules in concert,,and certainly from my perspective, nothing about sex is PG..maybe the description of it on a piece of vinyl sold to the masses, but certainly not the lifestyle it is pre- and de-scribing!

Do we want to really get into philosophic discussions of "right", "wrong", "etc", etc in here?
Im not criticizing the mods or the job they do or did in this case.
im just expressing my dissappointment that we cant have that type of conversation on this board w/o it getting flamed or out of control or closed.
Ive asked for a private or restricted or mature forum here, but it was denied and that's fine, it's not my board.
But i still feel the occassional need to express myself, maybe as an editorial, maybe as a release of pent-up agression that is completely non-related, but suffers from a poor sense of self-timing...

Nope, because that's not something that can be settled. I think we have to avoid asking for a set of detailed rules, because who wants to be treated that way? Along those lines, we have to accept and be mindful of the judgments that the mods make. They've all been chosen because they've demonstrated that they can exercise that judgement fairly and responsibly. They're good guys, and a lot of discussion about this sort of stuff goes on behind the scenes. Nobody wants to have to step in and say "hey, this has gone too far and now it's time for it to end," but that's the nature of the role at times.

I'd much rather live with them making sound judgments than with a long and detailed list of rules.

This all tends to go in cycles. If you look back to the very beginning, you'll see that there wasn't as much cursing, and many topics were very lightly danced around. Things get a bit worse as time goes on, and then they cross a line. After that subjects get reeled in for a while, then they slowly move back towards that line. It gets pretty predictable.

just to reiterate, im not criticizing the mods here. i certainly respect what they do and how they do it most of the time.
i also agree in having a somewhat ambiguous definition of rules as opposed to narrow, strictly defined ones. it allows for good evolution..kind of like the constitution, for those who've actually read it. its a fine document that is almost alive and breathing..and that's because the framers had that insight..

That all being said, no we wouldnt come to any conclusion on right and wrong, etc.
Has there been any further discussions about a separate adult or mature, password forum for us guys who just have the need?

and i very much agree with the wokrplace sentiments, probably the only real argument i can accept on this topic!!but sound nonetheless...

Besides the fact that the owner who pays the bills simply doesn't want it smutty of course I'm sure.

It's a culture derived from ourselves in large part, but the tone is set from the top. I can respect that, and have for over 5 years. It's worked.

There is no such thing as "free speech" on a message board.

There is a wide variety of other websites out there that discuss these types of things at length.. foreclosing them here shouldn't affect anyone one way or the other.

Besides, that's what the PM feature is for, right?
