Im sitting here and listening to Diver Down.... Why wasnt Secrets released as a single. Even though its a mellow song for VH, its as melodic as anything theyve ever done. Pure Dave era Van Halen at its finest and easily a top two song off of DD along with Little Guitars.

totally agree!...i love that song...definitetly in the top 3 off that album for me.

love the way Ed goes into the solo on that one too...it's like an extension on the main melody....hair stands up on the back of the neck every time

Secrets is what I consider to be the most beautiful song Van Halen has ever done. Not in your face love. But it makes you feel happy when you hear it. Like it'll just bring a smile to your face everytime. And the end of that song where Dave's like "Lookin' good...ahhh yes!" winds down the song so perfectly. Augh its so amazing!

Brilliant song, brilliant performance. One of Dave's best lyrically and vocally. It's funny, I was trying to defend Dave in another thread as having been a good singer back then. I should have just said, go listen to "Secrets".

One of the reasons VH is/was so great. They can go from one extreme to another and still no one can compare.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

Looks like it was the third single released from DD, on 6/28/82.

I have only recently grown to appreciate this tune.

Now that I love it, I can't stop listening to it...it has made it on 4 or 5 cd compilations of mine.

A big difference to me is the lyrics..Secrets is much more creative than CSLY, IMO..Also, Secrets captures the essence of the DLR era. DD to me just oozes Arena Rock, VH style..

In summary, Secrets is pure Van Halen...CSLY could have been pulled off by many a band for the most part..especially lyrically

CSLY is not a bad song, it's just very ordinary. It feels and sounds like two dozen other songs during that time period. To me, there's just nothing special about it. Secrets is different sounding, musically and lyrically there's a spark that stands out. It doesn't sound like a dozen other songs, there's a freshness, it's a true VH original. Secrets has some of Dave's best lyrics, CSLY has lyrics you've heard a thousand times. It's not just Sam either, musically there's nothing innovative about CSLY, it sounds as though Eddie had been inspired by Survivor or something. CSLY doesn't fit in that well on Blance either IMO, Balance was a darker CD with some of VH's best and hardest rocking music, CSLY doesn't deserve to come in between Seventh Seal and Don't Tell Me. Not a horrible song--just a little too generic.

Agreed. Balance would've been the Sam era magnum opus if they'd replaced CSLY and Not Enough with Crossing Over and Humans Being.

What an album that would have been.

They won't release it as a single and the reason why is a "secret".

Maybe a box set will have it.
