    Default New Sammy Interview

    From Blabbermouth---

SAMMY HAGAR: EDDIE VAN HALEN 'Wants To Be A Miserable Human Being' - July 18, 2005

Sammy Hagar spoke to Doug Podell of Detroit's WRIF 101.1 FM earlier this month about the current status of VAN HALEN and his upcoming solo album, tentatively due in early 2006. When asked to comment on the rumors that VAN HALEN may once again have been shelved following reports of internal disagreements, Hagar said, "It's really a shame… I don't know what happened. But, you know, Eddie [Van Halen] and I… everybody knows… I thought it was gonna be OK, and it wasn't OK. We did some great shows — don't get me wrong; we did some amazing shows in the Detroit area and some [other] places — but there were times off stage when him and I were… they were holding us back. We don't get along anymore. This guy… I'm sure he'd tell you a whole different story, but from my perspective, he doesn't know how to have fun, he doesn't wanna have fun, he wants to be a miserable human being and make everyone around him miserable. He just goes around firing people, and he tried to fire some of my people, [and I went], 'Get the hell outta here, man. This guy works for me, not you.' He's not any fun to be around. David Lee Roth was more fun to be around. [laughs] Unless he changes to where Mike [Anthony] and I can even handle being around… His brother can't even stand to be around him, but his brother is his brother, so he goes over and tries to deal with him all the time. If the guy wants to come around and say, 'Hey, look, let's go back to being friends and being happy musicians and playing music for the people,' and get rid of these $150, $200 dollar ticket prices and all this crap, then we could probably do it again. But I would never do it again for those prices — never ever ever. And I can say never ever ever. People say, 'Don't ever say never.' Well, I'm saying it. [laughs] but that's part of the deal. And the other thing, I wouldn’t do it unless we could become friends, and he's gotta change, 'cause I'm happy — I'm having a blast."

    Sigh.

Well, here come the 'Sammy you should shut the hell up' thoughts.

Me, once again I'm glad somebody is saying something. Too bad it's the same damned thing.

    It's all down to Ed.

One thing seems to be becoming apparent...the Billy Sheehan fluffers may finally be getting their long standing wish...'cause it looks like Mikey won't be going out with the upcoming and long prophesied Roth reunion.

Sammy should keep talkin!! The hell with staying quiet!! What's the worst that's going to happen, Van Halen will never tour again?
Anyway, I'm glad he's got the balls to come out and say what he said. If Eddie is what he sounds like he is, it's sad. You can say what you want about Hagar, Roth, Michael Anthony, but at least they seem to appreciate the people who helped make them as wealthy and successful as they are today. But, then again what do I know...

And I thought Alex was the miserable one! All kidding aside everyone says it's all on Ed to get this thing going again but I think Alex needs to step up and be the "Big " brother and tell Ed to cut the shit and get his act together and have some fun.

More of the same. As has been said, at least Sammy's talkin'.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

I wonder if Sammy thinks we are all idiots? It was his maangement for that tour, and we all know how contracts work, so I am sure when he said well I want "X" amount of $$ per show, then the promoters came back with, we will have to charge "X" for you to get that, then, if he said "that's too high, why not this much?" then the promoters said, well then we would bring you down to "X" per show if we did that, good old Sam said FUCK IT, he was the singer, he could have squashed the entire deal, and ran to the press "we were gonna do it, but they were going to charge this much. and I said screw it", I would respect him, but the guy know wants public opinion and makes these comments after all is said and done? Please Sam, you are just as guilty as the rest of them, how's that Cabo Wabo merch going?

It is what I think. I'd bet solid money at this point that if Sam's out, so is Mike. But what's the big whoop? Most Roth fans think Van Halen is just Dave and Ed, so who cares who's drumming or who's bassing, or who's singing backing vocals? It'll STILL be Van Halen. Sure it will.

Not me, dude. Van Halen is:

    Ed
    Dave
    Alex
    Mike

MY CD's say so! And, I have pics to prove it!

Seriously, if they ever did record with Dave again, they'd absolutely need Mike's background vocals (if he'd go along with it)...

Good on ya, dude. You'd be surprised how many 'Gravers insist Mikey and Al are replaceable.

If they got Roth back there is no way Mike would be involved. They fired him and the only way he came back the last time was becasue Sam said he wouldn't do it without Mike.

I don't believe a word off of some sight called "blabbermouth" the "Enquirer" of the music world. While it's possible Sammy feels that way. Those quotes seem to blunt and honest to be from him.

My position is that the original band is irreplaceable.
