    Default Classic Sci Fi Flicks!

Which of these films/franchises are worthiest of the term "classic"? You may make more than one choice.

I have to think about this for a while. Two of my favorites aren't here. The orignal DOA and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. But I love 2001 and Blade Runner also. Hummm I'll be back later. The burning smell will be me in deep thought.

You forgot quite a few entries, Scum ol' buddy.

But there's no denying, among artisan sci fi aficionados, that's it's tough to beat Ridley Scott's classic magnum opus Blade Runner. Among my favorite films of all time.

And really, Star Wars is a class unto itself, and cannot properly be labeled as genre-specific science fiction. Star Wars is more like the modern equivalent of serialized space opera, and has a niche all its own in modern pop culture.

    Glaring omissions:

The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2)
    Terminator 2
    Close Encounters
    The Matrix (1)
    The Abyss
    Aliens

And the new WOTW, IMO, is a stunning example of fine sci fi.

As far as Star Trek goes, the series (s) generally beat the films, with the possible exception of II (Kahn). Unequivocally, many, many episodes in the Next Gen series beat ALL of Picard's films, especially the two parter cliffhanger episodes like Best of Both Worlds (although to date, I think Next Gen's finest hour may have been the one shot Yesterday's Enterprise, with an Enterprise at war because of one of those nasty and frequent time thingamajiggies).

I realize that, however the polls only allow for 10 choices. Wasn't easy deciding what would get a mention before making the tenth slot a "fill in the blank".

The original Planet Of The Apes - great film for 1967.

"Aliens" hands down, with "The Matrix" a close second. Before both those movies came along, there was nothing like them.

Wish I had room for those first three.

Although I think AvP is far from a classic, 'twas a fun movie....and far better than Alien 4.
