    3. Van Halen. "How many bands from America have been as huge as Van Halen, then had to replace the lead singer and still be as popular, or even more popular, than before?" asked St. Louis reader Christopher Cokenour. "Van Halen's songwriting, whether with David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar, took you to a place of happiness, never getting too heavy, never being too stupid." In addition, Patrick Beam in Little Rock was one of several readers to say "Eddie Van Halen influenced every guitarist that was alive or has been born since."
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

Pearl Jam trumping VH and the Eagles? Gimme a break.

The problem is, old guys don't do polls.

Yeah, I can comprehend the Aerosmith thing but not Pearl Jam.

    Pearl Jam #1???

I mean, I'm a fan of those guys and all but let's face it....they haven't had a good album since vitalogy and =VH=, Aerosmith, and Metallica have done a heck of a lot more in their respected careers compared to PJ.

At least it's good to see quotes like this in regards to Ed Patrick Beam in Little Rock was one of several readers to say "Eddie Van Halen influenced every guitarist that was alive or has been born since."

But I'd settle for a #3 ranking, considering how bad other polls have done =VH= in.

I don't see how Pear Jam could be number 1. I love em to death but there are ALOT more betters better qualified for that position.

I like Pearl Jam too but there's no way they should be ahead of VH and Aerosmith.

Pearl Jam at number one? I can only stand one of their songs so I spit on this list.

I knew last week's column would spark heated debate among music aficionados, but I didn't realize just how intense it would get until the e-mail started pouring in — more e-mail, in fact, than I've received about any other column. Overall, the list is pretty decent. No way Pearl Jam is #1 though. Like it has been said, they haven't had too many good songs since Vitology came out. I can definitely see them in the top 5 though, especially given the other bands on that list.

WTF is DMB doing on that list? They suck!
