    Default EVH and Soldano

Are you aware of any specific tracks the EVH recorded with his Soldano SLO amp? I am looking for one to add to the stash and am curious how and when he used his in the studio.

I think he used it on some tracks on the F.U.C.K. album, but I could be wrong. Anyone else know?

As I recall, almost all of FUCK was recorded with Soldanos...and maybe a bit of Balance.

Its funny that you mentioned that. I have rediscovered a Guitar Player that is all about Eddie. Has an interview with Andy Johns about making FUCK and mixing RHRN.

In the interview he says the album was recorded with the Soldano because Eddie's Marshall was acting up all the time and they could not get a good sound.

I believe you are right. I seem to remember reading that he used a 5150 prototype on "Poundcake" and "The Dream is Over" though.

Regarding "The Dream Is Over," I recall Eddie saying he used a proto-type Rocktron Pre-amp that Steve Lukather had brought him. Could have been the Rocktron Chameleon proto-type? Not sure if it was for the rhythm or solo. Somebody back me up here!

My buddy grabbed a Soldano SLO 100 of ebay for $1800 U.S. and he can't get enough of it, he loves the amp. A friend of mine worked Van Halen's 93 show in Barrie (Canada) and said Ed's rack backstage was all Soldano, even thoug on stage he had the 5150's, pretty sure Ed mentioned in a few mags he was still tweaking them at that point.

Eddie used a Custom Audio Electronics prototype preamp on that song.

It was, i believe, the precursor to the 3+ preamp they offer. According to John Suhr, Ed purchased one after returning the loaned preamp to CAE, but said the production model didn't sound as good as the prototype.
