Default Newly signed Boston-area band: Waltham

    Waltham.

Just got signed to Rykodisc - described as writing "the catchiest Van Halen-meets-Rick Springfield style songs you've ever heard and puts on one of the best live shows you've ever seen."

I got a chance to work with them at a local festival, and they were great! Certainly worth a listen!

Yeah. Had a laugh as they had shirts made up that had their band name done in the logo style of the band 'Boston'. Usually I mix sound at these festivals and the bands come and go, nothing really catches my ear. These guys did. Plus they were professional and nice to me, they sounded good, they played their asses off. The non-label disc they put out sounds like it should be a label disc, song writing is good...just figured I would throw the link out.

I've heard these guys and they kick! I really like them. Good to hear they have been signed!

I got the 'Permission to Build' disc at the gig and plan to pick up the Ryko disc. Hope to see good things for these guys. It isn't every day you get to mix sound for a band that:

    -Is tight as a band
-Has a lead singer that not only can sing his ass off, but
-Has 4 bandmates that sing equally as well and in harmony
    -Two words: guitar solos!
-Yes, the drummer was a pleasure to work with, plus he beat the snot out of his set.
-Catchy songwriting that would certainly fit in with current music
-Heavy enough playing for the rock n roll crowd

If pimping these guys is my good deed of the day, they earned it by making my job an audio engineer that day that much easier.

Permission to Build is also for sale over at Amazon, and the soon to be released new CD will be sold there as well, though (in the Boston area) if you purchase the new disc over at Newbury Comics, you get a bonus disc called 'Awesome', which has their take on Sammy's 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' (insert "Waltham" instead of "Ridgemont"). Incidentally the show I mixed for them, that was their final song in the set and it rocked!

More VH comparison, the blurb on them at Amazon states:

"Remember when rock songs were fist-pumping anthems about girls and cars that made you feel good instead of suicidal? HERE’S THE BAND YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR! Take the good-time fun of Roth-era Van Halen and add a healthy dose of Cheap Trick guitars, Def Leppard harmonies, and give it a modern overhaul – now you’re starting to get an idea of the Waltham experience!"

Good luck to them on the new disc!

I might check out the clips at some times, but I can't get over how cheesy it is that they named themselves Waltham as:

A: Waltham reminds me of Jordan's Furniture and those two chuckleheads in the commercial, none of which equates to good rockin'

B: Naming themselves "Waltham" and then having T-shirts made with a "Boston" style logo is just asking for a lawsuit from a Mr. Scholz

Yeah he totally approved the shirts and loved the idea, he's a big fan. Waltham opened up for Boston last year at the Fleet Center.

    Default Waltham is awesome!

In my book, Waltham is best new band I have heard in a long long time. Their musically great power pop that is just dripping with hooks is hitting the spot with me! Damn, tour the Midwest guys!!!!!!!!!!
