Default Who is the Van Halen of this generation?

Who is the Van Halen of this generation? Im not talking about the Darkness either...I'm talking about a band that even remotely brings faint memories of good ol dave and the boys. When I go to a concert I expect an experience. good old rock and roll with attitude. I don't care about messages. <INSERT DAVE QUOTE HERE> I want every song to sound like the opener and the closer. I want the band to entertain me and if they play like they remember why the picked up their instruments the first time to begin with then I'll be happy. So who is it? Please don't tell me the Foo Fighters either. No BS replies either like "they are unique or they are the originals".

LOL. Yeah, sorry, here's the BS reply you didn't want.

There AREN'T any. If there were, I'd be listening to them.

Classic hard rock's last chance for posterity, in terms of the torch being passed from Dave era VH, was Guns and Roses.

Too bad Axl and Slash didn't hash it out.

GnR were never up to snuff either, IMHO. They were alright, but they get
way too much credit. At best, they were more Aerosmiff or Hanoi Rocks than
Zep or VH. Slash just isn't the visionary craftsman like Page or Ed.

Agreed. I wasn't saying GnR was Halen-level by any means...I was just sayin', in the vein of hard rock, they were the last to approach that sort of tone and vibe with any moderate success.

LOL, to be honest, I tend to lump Zeppelin and VH in a class by themselves, a pristine bubble where really, nobody else comes even close.

True dat. I can't understnd why more people in general and musicains in
particular aren't hip to that, and that that fact is not reflected in newer music - hence giving us the VH of today.

this might be off the subject . but i think a band that brought something different to the table was stp.i think each album was different from each other. i think when they did that unplugged show , they proved they were for real ........

    Tough question.

Maybe Green Day. Some may not like their music but they've been around for awhile and put on a good show.

There are some different ways to answer your question. You said you were looking for a band/artist who could be compared (whether musically, technically, popularity-wise, whole package, etc.) to our mighty band in their heyday (note: most of us are still carrying their torch).

Technically, I personally would put Dream Theater up there, but not in popularity or musically.

Musically, nobody that's popular fits the bill for me right now. I loathe the White Stripes, Strokes, Pokes, Smokes, Dopes and whoever else they got in there.

Popularity wise and technically, I'd have to go with someone like Christina Aguilera. As slutty as she may be, that's a freaking unreal talent IMO. She's got a pretty broad fanbase too. But she doesn't ROCK.

All the other posers--Jessica, Britney, Ashlee (ugh), and these hacks today are pretty boring. (IMO) not one real popular ROCK band out of the bunch that makes you want to pump your fist, get in your '81 Trans Am, and flash the devil horns.

I agree with whoever said Stone Temple Pilots as far as the whole package, but they are now defunct.

So the only REAL answer to your question (for me) is actually Van Halen.
How open-minded do I have to be before my brains start spilling out?

I would agree with Silvertide. They are just good o' rock n roll. Not a guitar hero band but they sound good together and at least have solo's in their songs. Shinedown is another great new band. Not really a guitar band, but they write good songs and sound good. I do know they opened for VH but I knew about these bands before that happened.

I will say that VR is carrying the torch right now and will keep carrying providing no one in the band dies (slash, duff, scott). Slash is the SHIT. The guy is an innovator regardless of what people think of him today.
