    Default Goo Goo Dolls

I'm curious as to folks opinions of The Goo Goo Dolls.
I've liked a few songs here and there, and i recentley picked up the "Live in Buffalo" cd, and to my surprise it's been in the car player ever since.
I confess that i skip over every tune by the wierd little bass player, but the stuff by Johnny Reznik is pretty good.
Their probably not the next big thing, but there's a lot worse shit out there.............

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

I saw them at my local fair about five years ago. I must say they sound great live. Why did they ever fizzle out?

I'm going to rename this thread so folks don't think everybody's favourite Mod has started a band or something...

These guys were great when I saw them. I saw them open for Bon Jovi a couple of times in 2003 and they were great performers. Too bad their set was a little short do to them having the opening slot.

They're music is perfect for radio, as well.

I'm very open to all types of music, and there are many bands that I hate. However, these guys are one of them. Just can't stand them, and never will. I'm sure they are talented, but their music has just never appealed to me.

AND when Johnny Rzeznik said, "Eddie Van Halen is responsible for some of the worst rock n roll music of all time" when referring to 80's rock, I just grew a hatred for the guy.

He did. He was on a show called The List that VH 1 aired a few years ago. The show lasted one season and was gone. It was basically a music debate show. Ed was always getting robbed on those things by Hendrix. And after Johnny made that comment, I just about had my fill.

He should have waited a few years before he said that, because look at where the Goo Goo Dolls are now.

i did not know he said that, and i did enjoy their two shows i saw when they opened for bon jovi (they sounded a lot better in the fleetcenter than they did at gillette stadium)........but after saying that about ed......screw em......the guy was trying to be a hardass anyways bragging about how much he could drink and stuff......
Van Halen Is: Edward Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony, Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth, Gary Cherone

    They will be back.....

I'm tempted to give the guy a break on his comment about EVH,who hasn't said something reatrded every now and then.
I'm curious though about the "look at where they are now" comments.
I think the Live cd sold alright up here, perhaps because of "Give a little bit" and the fact that Canada always was more receptive to Supertramp than the U.S.
They are back in the studio with Glen Ballard as we speak, but, are these guys off the map in the States?

I like some of their songs.

They haven't really done anything notable down here since Dizzy Up the Girl.

I can see his point on Eddie, but he should have stated Eddie's influence. I don't think he was meaning that VH music was terrible, it was just all the wannabee's that we can't even remember now. He should remember that there were several people who tried to copy Dave too...and did a horrible job.

The Goo Goo Dolls are a sad story. Their first 2 albums were pretty much 100 mph punk, but albums 3 & 4 were awesome. Hold me Up and Superstar Car Wash are true classics. A Boy named Goo had its moments, and then it all went to garbage. Once "Name" hit the charts, it was time for all out mushy ballads and garbage tunes. But I HIGHLY reccommend Superstar Car Wash, an awesome slice of terrific songwriting and catchy choruses. Fame ruined these guys.
