Rackmount stuff could be anything 19 inches wide with mounting holes on the front panel. Effects and effect processors, preamps, power amps, switching systems, power supplies, wireless receivers, synthesizer sound modules, etc. Any type of electronic music paraphernalia you can think of is probably available in a rackmount form.

I have a POD Pro (2.0 version) which is rackmount running through a Mesa P290 power amp. I am going to add a Sonic Maximizer 362 later on when I get the cash. The POD has a built in tuner, but I may get another tuner later on, just haven't decided yet.

Have that running to a 5150 cab.
    Your favorite band sucks.

maybe a preamp such as the marshall JMP - 1 because lugging around a heavy head is getting to be a pain. Also it would be nice to eventually get a wirless unit. Im totally new to this field so any type of information about ANY rackmount unit/how rackmount units work would make me very appreciative.

I know stomp boxes have had a big comeback... but I have everything rack for a few reasons. 1. I had very close friends in the business back in the late 80's, so I got digitech rack stuff below cost before it was releasd to the public. 2. I think it simplifies things a bit. everything is midi connected to switch channels together and my single space tube mesa 20/20 power amp is light and louder than most any head on the market. so I just have the rack andd 2 4X12's.

I SURVIVED TEXAS LINKERS WEEKEND I, II, III, IV and VI and VII.barely made it to VIII time to slow down
I musta had a broken middle finger for V

TC Electronics , Lexicon, makes some of the best rack effects unit out there, VHT amps makes some really cool and powerful preamps, Shure and Sennheiser makes some real good wireless system, if you want to sound good and check out some of these...

well you can go for both or just use a power amp but alot of guys I know use both. Pre amps are main used for effects and power amps are used for drive power I could draw up a sample diagram and show you what I mean I do this every day in my field.. Question for you, how many cabs are you using?

if you re running your rack effects into a amp or amp head's effects loop you dont need a a pre or power amp.

you need a pre and power amp if youre just running the rack into a speaker cab.

Ok im sorta figuring this stuff out now. Thanks Guys

    what are some
good pre amp/power amp combonations (seperate units) that are decent

    OR

What is a good preamp/poweramp (one unit) that is decent

Im looking for a unit that would provide marshall-like tone, but can fit in a rack for easy transport to gigs.

Also: what are some must's for a good rack, do i need a midi foot controller? ect.

Though I've never gotten to try one, I hear the G Major by TC Electronics is an outstanding piece of gear for a rather low price...........they seem to be very popular with the gear heads over at Vai.com.
