    FIREFOX AND MEDIA PLAYER

I have a question to anyone who is using the web browser Firefox. When I download a song or a video it plays it on quicktime. When I used I.E. it used the windows media player which I prefer. Does anyone know how to change firefox to use WMP as its default player. Thanks for the help

Some Embedded/Streaming Media (such as those on launch.com) use an ActiveX Control to invoke Windows Media Player. ActiveX is what Internet Explorer uses instead of the plugin system adopted by Netscape. It is a set of controls that allow a website a measure of control over a browser viewing the page, in order to allow for more complex web page content. Some of the ActiveX controls allow websites to execute code on the user's computer, or to silently install files to it. This can be a big security risk, and is one of the more serious security vulnerabilities in IE. Partly for this reason, Firefox does not come with ActiveX support installed. There is an ActiveX plugin for Firefox 1.0 available, and this topic gives instructions for installing and testing it. It comes pre-configured to only run the Windows Media Player controls - and so to be secure. This will allow you to view many of the websites that only use ActiveX to embed media.
In addition, the WMP plugin is hard-coded to only play the proprietary Microsoft formats (.asf, .asx, .wm, .wma, .wax, .wmv, and .wvx), and Windows Media Player provides no provision for changing this. For the most common formats found on the web (like mp3, midi, mpg, wav, etc.) you will need to install and configure Quicktime or Quicktime Alternative. The Quicktime guide contains instructions for this - it can be found here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206210

    Hope this helps....
