Default The reality of planning a VHLinker's annual get-to-gether...

My vote would be to stay in vegas.
my idea would be to negotiate with a particular casino, like the mandalay bay, for example, for a group rate, and for group activities, including a VHLinks sanctioned Hold 'em Tournament, and drinking fests, etc.
It wont be that hard to do, but if i can get somne realistic feedback on what time of year, how long it should be, how much an avg person would spend for lodging, etc, i can put something together and then see what kind of real interest we get, and then go back and solidify something..

So, here it is...If you ever truly wanted to have:

"The Annual VHLinks Viva VH 5150 Fest" (pls contribute names as well, this is a single example)

the time is come to sound off. I am the kind of guy who can get it done..but only with your interest..

Are you kidding me? Count ktgiles and van_5150_halen IN!!! Vegas sounds great to me. As far as the time of year goes, early summer is always good for us. With this much advance notice, however, we could plan to be there at just about any time of year. As far as hotel costs, since most people would be flying we'd have to take that into consideration. I'd say for me, I'd like to pay under $150/night (especially since this isn't our vacation for the year but would be more like a mini-vacation). I've never been to Vegas, so I don't even know if that price-range at a casino hotel is even remotely doable (even with a group-rate...I might be way off base). Anyway...for this event, money probably would not be an object!

Dude, I am SO there!!! Excellent Idea!!! I agree with ktgiles, as much notice as possible and I would say a two to three day event would be perfect. Friday, Saturday, Sunday type of thing. Vegas is cool becaise its somewhat centrally located... okay, I guess not he he he... but still a great idea none the less!

Dollar figures as far as nightly hotel should probably be within the 125.00 to 150.00 range but maybe the hotel could arrange for some sort of group discount.

How about the "Van Halen Lost Vegas Weekend?"

That would be something I'd try to attend, with the liklihood that I couldn't, since I'm sure something would fuck it up for me. But the wife and I would try, that's for sure. I think she'd be open to a weekend away, and Vegas is a fun town even if you don't gamble.

But only if someone brings whipped cream...

You know, I avoided commenting for a while, but that picture, well, it was just pretty damn cool, ya know?

I'll second that and let me pass it on to my bandmates in Fair Warning to see if it's something we're all interested in...

I wouldn't be able to make the first few due to the young one, but if it were to become an annual event I'm sure I'll be making them in a few years!

I might just have to have a videotaped speech delivered to the hotel conference room for everyones viewing pleasure.

    Count me 'in-a-mundo.'
I just posted a response in the Texas thread...Oops.
I'll summarize here. LA would be cool for obvious reasons(VH,Brett, etc.), but Vegas would be more economical for everyone, and better suited for our needs.

    Now for brainstorming....................

Yep, sounds fun to me. How about Halloween for timing? Vegas can be affordable. I know a few years ago, I was able to stay at the Riviera on the end of the strip for $25. It's not the most glamorous, but look at ourselves here. Hurricane season kind of puts a damper in travel plans for me. Kind of strange to leave home/work only to have a major strom hit. Late Oct./Early Nov. would work best for me. Also, that is usually lower airfares around that season as well. And yes, VH cover band is a must!

Well seeing as most of VH's anniversaries fall during the spring time, I would tend to prefer something during the spring, perhaps in March-April????

There are a LOT of places to hit on the strip too. I think it'd be a idea to check on hotel rates and conference room (logistics) now.

    Anyone??
