    Cool

Out here in Ohio all we ever have is the occasional tornado. I have family in N. Cali so, just curious.

We had an earthquake here in Illinois last summer. It was tiny, but it was pretty cool...at least I thought it was.

I didn't feel anything here. Small quakes are Ok but I was in the big one here in 89 and it was only cool for like 5 seconds until I looked out the window and the lawn was rippling like water. I got kinda creepy at that point and I really wanted it to end.

Yeah, that would suck. The one here only vibrated my closet door open and made my friend's bed shake, so I consider that to be cool...haha.

Today's earthquake was 91 miles from the coast. Some moderate to strong vibration and some light damage have been reported in California and Oregon.

Earthquakes suck!!! We have had a few good shakers in the Pacific Northwest over the past few years, I did not enjoy the ride one bit.

There was a tsunami warning for Washington and Oregon coasts but they retracted them soon after the quake.

OLO, I know what you mean. The Nisqually quake was definitely scary. I was very near the damage here in Olympia. A friend and I got some really good footage within an hour or so of it happening.

Actually, they issued a Tsunami 'Alert' for the ENTIRE West Coast...from B.C. to Mexico. They cancelled it about an hour after the quake. From what I heard, it was a 7.0mag (which is consdered a 'MAJOR' earthquake) there were NO reports of injuries or damage. (I never felt a thing here...we're about 300 miles to the south of where it occurred.)
The quake was about 90 miles off the coast from Crescent City, (they DID evacuate portions of Crescent City)out in the Pacific Ocean and it occurred on what they believe now to have been a 'strike/slip' fault, as opposed to a 'thrust' fault.
(A 'thrust' fault is the type that cause the tsunami over in Sumatra. That quake over there was a 9+ mag and was considered a 'GREAT' earthquake.)

I suspect we'll see some more movement on many of the major faults here now. No telling how much, and I know they say one quake doesn't trigger other faults, but I've seen it happen before.

They had a 'moderate' one down in the palm Springs area a on Sunday I believe. Somewhere in the 5's. The Earth is all so very dynamic. I believe it all works in relation to everything that happens on the planet...even the weather.

Right after my post I read somewhere that it was for the whole west coast like you said. Thanks for the clarification.

The whole "Ring of Fire" seems to be pretty active these days...

Well...after the Loma prieta quake...I bookmarked the USGS Recent EQ site and I look at it every day!

Lemme tell ya....that quake scared the living crap outta me!

I was in a grocery store...felt like a truck had crashed into the back of the building. All the doors in the freezer section were just a flappin like an army of ghosts were all opening and shutting them at random....the acoustic tiles in the ceiling started to fall...everything was crashing from the shelves all over and people were all screaming...THEN the lights went out and it got dead still and WAY too quite...except for children and people crying. I tried to get out as quick as I could after the shaking stopped, but was stopped at the door by one of the checkers...he said, "Ma'am, I'm sorry but you have to PAY for those things before you take them out of the store." I looked down and realized I was still pushing the cart that I had a 'death grip' on during the quake! LOL!!! If I wasn't holding onto that, I would have been knocked on my keester! LOL!

JA <----doesn't mind the 'baby ones' like 3's, 4's, or 5's (mag)...but the 6's and up get mighty scary!
