Would have been a nice added bonus for the dvd...
I was just wondering if any of you out there were thinking
of the same thing over the past ten yrs?

I think those 81 live shots from Oakland are awesome, the band at their height of their powers, but the brothers don't seem to think very highly of those performances. They may not be note for note perfect, but the energy and enthusiasm are off the chart.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

They don't feel good about those performances, but released that crap called Right Here Right Now? A stale concert that was the beginning of the end. They even fed us a fake "live" song on the CD version. I'd be proud of Oakland and ashamed of RHRN.

The 81 Oakland show is sort of the Holy Grail for VH fans. No one really knows if the entire concert was filmed or just those 3 songs. Last word had Pete Angelus in possession of the entire concert, all pro shot and of high quality, but he apparently has it locked away and it will never see the light of day. I'm sure the brothers have a ton of video in storage some where. Eddie has mentioned in interviews over the years that a lot of stuff was filmed by the band, a lot of early stuff too, even from the club days and first few tours. Don't forget the pro shot videos of Dance the Night Away, Bottoms Up, You're No Good, from the 79 world tour. Same quality as the Oakland vids. It would be real nice of Eddie to make some of this stuff available to the hardcore fans, wouldn't it?

It's been pretty well established that the entire concert does not exist. Jeff from the Inside magazine and the VH store website has documented it pretty well. Basically, the three songs were filmed with a couple of additional shots, like the giant VH logo that was lowered at the end of the show.

You can tell by looking at the clips that it was shot on film. The problem with film is that

    A. It's expensive
    B. You have only a certain amount loaded in your camera

So, as much as we all would love to see the complete Oakland show, it just doesn't exist. Hard to believe, since almost 25 years later, every show is taped by someone and available minutes later on the internet. It's really sad to think about all those great concert that are lost to time.
