Song ideas for iMovie of my sons life

I'm producing a short film using pictures of my three-year-old son.
It's something I'm doing for my wife.
I'm using iMovie and burning it to DVD using iDVD.

I've searched iTunes for appropriate songs like
Cats in the Cradle and Danny's Song.

I'm hoping you guys might have some suggestions
    Thanks in advance.

It was kind of funny when I first heard about it being a Van Halen “reunion”

    What an odd choice.

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

I'd definitely use "You'll Be In My Heart" by Phil Collins off the Tarzan soundtrack. We use that in our kindergarten slide-show at their graduation and it always produces floods of tears by the parents. I also LOVE Sammy's song, "Kama" (which means "love" in sanskrit, but of course is also the name of his daughter). Here are the words:

    KAMA
Written by: Sammy Hagar & Jesse Harms

Today, love takes on a whole new meaning
In a face, I know I've seen somewhere before
    Somehow, the mystery is over
    Yet, just begun
To see the most perfect thing
    Together, we've ever done
So what do we call this miracle we've made
And how can I find one word to say it
When all I'm feeling, here and now, is love
So that will always be you
    Kama

Today, I just wrote a song about you
The words, they flow just like the air I breathe
    The closest I've ever been
    To truly understanding
    The closest we'll ever be
To the meaning of life so sacred

So what do we call this miracle we've made
And how can I find one word to say it
When all I'm feeling, here and now, is love
So that will always be you
    Kama

And every language has a word
But the meaning is always the same
Love is all you've got, to start out in the world
And love is all that remains

So what do we call this miracle we've made
And how can I find one word to say it
When all I'm feeling, here and now, is love
So that will always be you
    Kama

Finally, I absolutely love "The Rainbow Connection" sung by Kermit the Frog.

Have fun. Sounds like a neat project.

    John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy"
    Close your eyes
    Have no fear
    The monster’s gone
He’s on the run and your daddy’s here

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

    Before you go to sleep
    Say a little prayer
    Every day in every way
    It’s getting better and better

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

Out on the ocean sailing away
    I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we’ll both just have to be patient
’cause it’s a long way to go
    A hard row to hoe
Yes it’s a long way to go
    But in the meantime

    Before you cross the street
    Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
While you’re busy making other plans

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

    Before you go to sleep
    Say a little prayer
    Every day in every way
    It’s getting better and better

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

Those are all good suggestions. I like the Tarzan idea the best.
I’m checking out some of the titles I’m not familiar with.

I've always had a soft spot for that Harry Chapin song.
I realize the ‘Every Breath You Take’ thing, the song sounding prettier than the message.
But perhaps it's 'cuz my Dad was always at work.
His work ethic was / is to be admired. But he missed out on being at the ball games and camping outings. He had to work. He didn’t chase planes but had plenty of bills to pay. He worked so my brother and I could have opportunities and not go hungry.

I won't be using “Cats in the Cradle” for a slideshow about my son or his relationships.
But had I used the Chapin tune I can imagine my Dad, perhaps seeing the contrast between the song and my sons’ life. That being one more thing my Dad afforded his kids — breaking of that cycle.

Thanks for all your good suggestions
I let you know how it's received on Fathers Day.

I put together a tune for my oldest son documenting the few first hours of life....right after he was born up until the day we left the hospital to start our new life together.

The song I chose.....Neworld...by Van Halen.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Kama by Sammy perhaps. Haven't heard it in a while but if I remember correctly it would work.
