Macca and the others looking up to John, especially in the early days, is no secret - been written about a million times.

Stipe can go fuck himself - self-important ass bag.

Does anyone really give a shit about one fucking thing said in that report? It was totally pointless just like everything else on cable news.

Although, Stipe has been the front man for one of the most worthless bands in history and so he rips the Beatles?

Elevator music- no shit- Funny because I was in an elevator in airport the other day and Musak "losing my religion" was playing...

    fucking ass

    I guess I do care.

I like the Beatles, and I also like REM, and I'd like to know the context of that quote.....but you also got to love Noel Gallagher:

"Well, I don't consider myself to be the next Michael Stipe. He's like 'Oh, God, man, I suffer for my art!' and I'm like 'Oh fuck off! Go and suffer somewhere else, but don't do it on fucking MTV when I got to watch you, ya cunt!'"

Exactly. Stipe's doesn't have a whole lot to be proud of music-wise. At least I don't think so.

    But everybody hurts.

I kinda warmed up to some of REMs early stuff, but overall, they're
just way too sensitive and have no clue how to rock. I keep coming back
to a Stipe quote on why they never solo: "What am I supposed to do,
an interpretive dance?" to which I reply: "Um, yeah. Dance mutherfucker.
Or make yourself useful and pick up a damned tamborine or something."
Hey, it was good enough for Robert Plant. And you sir, are no Robert Plant.

REM need the publicity. What better way than to rip what many people consider to be the best music group.

I would like to see this on a Pay Per View fight.

    REM vs The Cure.

Wonder who would throw the first punch?

Someone should try to find what the pompous windbag gives as his reasoning to not including printed lyrics in their albums - total copout bullshit.

I like some REM tunes, but I have not much been a fan of Mr. Stipe's additude.

As much as we hate Muzak, I don't think you've really "made it" until your music is heard in an elevator. Hell, the cover of "National Enquirer" has been the standard of success for years.
