    Default Why.....Dave??

I am not trying to start a war here...honestly just have a question for the Dave people. Look, I love VH, fell in love with them during the Dave era, love the classic sound, but why do any of you want Dave back in the band now?? He was the coolest mofo ever back in the '80's.....great schtick...I mean great...but......does that schtick really work today?? I mean do any of us really want to hear ......"look at all the people here tonight", or "don't stick your toung out at me, I'll give you somethig to do with it" for the five hundreth time?? I admit, the music, classic VH, was better then, but c'mon....do you really believe Dave had something to do with it????? Isn't it obvious that Ed is the musical drive behind this band and eventually it all comes down to him....no matter who is singing? I honestly am just curious....why would you want Dave back in, I used to love the guy, but I think he would be just a joke in the band at this point.

I wanna hear "Look at all the people here tonight" just as much as the rest of you enjoyed hearing Van Hagar butcher "Unchained" last year with Sam. Also, don't you ever get tired of Ed playing the same horsy noises with his tremelo? What about his fingertapping? That's certainly Ed's shtick and you seem to like it? Dave is a vibe and an attitude that us Dave or the Gravers live by. We love the man's humor, wit and the uniqueness that only HE can bring to a song. It's not some "tired, old shtick" to us just like Ed's playing that hasn't evolved in years isn't old to you.

]I admit, the music, classic VH, was better then, but c'mon....do you really believe Dave had something to do with it????? Isn't it obvious that Ed is the musical drive behind this band and eventually it all comes down to him....no matter who is singing?
My goodness, Dave had a ton to do with the Classic Halen sound. If not, then why did the music change so fucking drastically after he left? Eddie used to cry that Dave and Ted Templeman wouldn't "let him" put the eventual crap on early records. It all comes down to this, with your statement "no matter who's singing" and that is where we differ.

I honestly am just curious....why would you want Dave back in, I used to love the guy, but I think he would be just a joke in the band at this point.
Dave would be the "joke?" LMAO!!! Did you happen to hear the last three songs they released last year or see that tour? I think Van Halen as an act has now become one of the biggest jokes in the music industry and the lackluster numbers of their tour proves it.

Good post and I happen to agree with most of it. My only issue with your post is that the music of the two eras of Van Halen are not better than each. They are different from each other. Different singers. Different ages of the band members. Different interests at that point in their lives. And in the Dave era (especially the early stuff) they were hungrier. They had something to prove. Yes, they had something to prove with Sammy as well, and that was that the band was bigger than David Lee Roth, and they proved that point in spades.

I enjoy all VH thoroughly but I wouldn't call either era better or worse just different.

What you don't understand is that the majority of people on this board are not "Dave" people or "Sam" people, they are VH fans. We went without VH for too long and we don't want to see them stay away for so long again. Dave, Sam, whichever just give us an album and another tour already.

As far as Dave having something to do with CVH's music, that is a truly ignorant statement on your part. Even the harshest Dave critic will acknowledge that he contributed greatly to the sound of the first 6 albums. Just as Sam contributed to the sound of the next 4 albums. That is one reason why those eras sound so different. As far as Eddie, yes he is the true driving force, but without Sam or Dave what we got was VHIII, which again says something about Dave and Sam's contributions.

Quite frankly, as much of a joke as you seem to find Dave these days, what VH has inflicted upon its fans since 1996 is a much bigger and sadder joke. Many people think VH can redeem themselves and bring some closure by reuniting with Dave. Maybe they're right, maybe not, maybe it would be horrible. But I can't imagine anything more horrible than VH fading away again.

Naw, that ain't it. The real reason Davegravers get massive braindraining wood when faced with the prospect of a Roth reunion is 'cause they are the few, the proud. They are the elite, with the ability of recognizing the majesty of platinum toupee sportin' Merlin-Jim Kelly halfbreed cue balls clad in purple glitter spandex mumbling half the words to Romeo Delight as they stroke off whiskey bottles filled with diet ice tea while simultaneously performing a bastardized glam metal karaoke baton routine.

In all seriousness, when all's said and done, there ain't no denying the unique legacy of one Diamond David Lee Roth.

the last 2 tours proved...the VH shtick doesnt play to the masses anymore. Id like to see DLR with the band just cause I never got the chance although I dont expect it to be very good since I wasnt too impressed with him solo the two times I have seen him. That being said, Id be up early trying to get tickets anyway.

    Suup Squal?

Dayum, that was a pretty funny rant of yours. lmao.

I dunno, the reason I have to let off these little rants every once in a while is cos I'm fortunate enough to have seen the magic live in front of my naked and steaming eyes. lol. Some of these young dudes weren't fortunate enough to remember the magic or were even born way back when. Hence, that's where old fucks like us have to chime in from time to time. lol.

Ed's musical drive let Gary butcher his stuff and it sacked Mike's thumping & vocals.

Ed need's Dave attitude to drive his stuff per MWM & CGTSNM.
Sammy drive didn't impress me much with the last 3 songs.

At least Dave plays for us while Ed is collecting other 7 years of dust.

Man you need to find a copy of the DLR Band CD.
Dave needs to give more of it.
    That for sure.

Who wants to hear "Hello baaaby" for the millionth time? See didn't that question just sound stupid? Cause it pumps you up, gets you into it. Dave put on shows, any old band can play music, Dave entertains, if you want just music all of the time, go buy the album.

I admit, the music, classic VH, was better then, but c'mon....do you really believe Dave had something to do with it????? Isn't it obvious that Ed is the musical drive behind this band and eventually it all comes down to him....no matter who is singing? If you believe Ed is the only musical force driving the band, then why would you care who sings? Sam has seemed like a joke in this band lately as well buy putting things off, but there's no why sam threads. And if you think Ed is the only one that keeps the music together, then you need to listen long and hard again my friend. Why would he keep the band if only Ed was the good one? I'm sorry I hate to sound mean like this but this thread totally has no point, it seems like your mad that people want Dave back in...

VH is VH, are you a Sam or VH fan?

    It's just a singer...

By the way I'm not trying to be mean, I'm sorry if it seems like it.

    ....Quote of the freakin' year.

2nd of all....nobody has been or will be a better enteratainer on a Rock and Roll stage than DLR....he's simply a showman.....an attention whore.

Unchained butchered.....don't remember that. A subpar RWTD and a horrible Seventh Seal yes, but to compare Ed's overuse of squeals to Dave's stories doesn't seem like much of an argument. A better arguement would be Sam's overuse of "Is this shit on the beach tonight" and "we'll see you real soon."

And I would say the majority of folks here have either lived the "diamond" years either in person or via DVD and CD's......we're Van Halen fans, not just solo Hagar fans.

We'll see how the thread goes, but I'm pretty sure baldness, fatness, Casinos, 7K per show will ultimately kill this thread.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Seeing Dave back in VH would be like relive'n my teen years....which would f'n rock. Truth is, and I've said it before, I don't think he could pull it off now...although I'd like to see him prove me wrong!!

As for the band in any form, I'm not too sure we'll see our fav band of rockers kick butt anymore. If they reunite with Sam again....great. If they reunite with Dave....even better. And for no reason see'm reunite with Gary and one album.....whatever. The only thing I'm sure of is if Ed and Al keep thier talents alive and well, whatever they decide to do will be awesome!!!

Mike would be smart to keep good relations with them....not kiss thier a$$....just good relations!

I like Sammy...but ya gotta love Dave too...

He is a great performer, lots of fun, he rocks, he's intelligent, and he knows how to make a concert AMAZING.

And he has a chemistry with Eddie like Page and Plant.

Sorry jimmy but to a lot of us older folk who were fortuntate enough to witness The Mighty Van Halen Live with The Toastmaster General don't like one of Dave's signature rants done sub-par. IMO.

"Unchained" is all about Dave's get up and go attitude. Hence "You hit the ground running" and that's the spirit, vibe and attitude I aspire to when I hear the lyrics. When Sam changes a simple word from Here's to your thin red line.....I'm STEPPING over to some reference of a prior song of his with "Crossing Over" it kills the vibe.

Shucks, how many times has he butchered Dave's lyrical prowess with the classic tracks? He shouldn't sing them PERIOD and he's proven time after time he doesn't wish to do so. Then good and don't!!!

I got my "ass" against the record machine - creative.
