    Could a "Vocal Coach" help....

Dave bring back his classic vocal sound again, or is the damage done?

Dave pretty much sounds the same now as he did twenty years ago minus the banshee scream that he can no longer pull off live.

Dave never was and never will be a great technical singer. He is kind of like Mick Jagger, Johnny Cash, Lou Reed and a lot of other popular singers: you either like his style of vocals or you don't, no amount of vocal coaching will change that.

You can say you don't like Sam's vocals but you have to admit he is a good singer. If you don't like Dave's vocals then you just don't like them, you can't say he is a good singer.

I am a huge fan of Dave's vocals, but I will never say he is a good singer. He is a lead vocalist, not a singer.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Dave does have good tone though, just thought I would add that.

The "brown" sound.......Ed's guitar tone, Al's snare, Dave's tone.

I saw Dave live last year and his vocals were the best I've ever heard from him in regards to a live performance. He may not have the range of Sammy, but he has waaaay more of an original tone and personality in his voice than Sammy ever will. If you really want to see something painful, go see Sammy try to hit the high notes in Dreams or half of the rest of the Van Hagar catalogue live. I've seen Van Hagar 3 times and every time his vocals were the weakest link of the show. I love Sammy's voice in the studio, but he rarely pulls it off live. He seems to always want to leave out or alter any challenging vocal part whatsoever.

Sammy Hagar's voice live sounds nearly identical to the recordings. Sure he has begun to share the high notes with Mikey or Mona, but he's 56 years old. He still blows Roth off the stage as a singer and a performer. This ccan not be denied. Sam is all over the stage, he's interacting with the crowd, sometimes in the rafters. Dave stands in one place, occaisionally pulls a groin muscle with a futile karate kick, and talks most of the songs. Listen fella, I love Dave, but you are just not being intellectually honest with your assessment.

Now let me see, I thought that we were talking vocals, and if you noticed, I did state that Sammy had a better vocal range than Dave's and in regards to Sammy's live performance's, I was only talking about the 3 times that I have seen him and yes, on one of those 3 nights he was in excellent voice. You say that you 'love' Dave and then make every attempt to slag him....And if you can really say that Sammy is a better frontman than Dave and walk a straight line, than I'm not the only one not being "intellectually honest" with my assessment.

No, no, no, no, no and no!!!

Dave doesn't need no stinkin' vocal coach. He has his own stellar and unique voice that's often been imitated but never duplicated. Just like a lot of killer blues singers. Fuck "range" and give me a fuckin' vibe baby. The onlt thing Dave needs is some whiskey and a smoke. Yup, datz what it tis' sho nuff. Oh, and nuthin' but yeahhhhhh...............

    Friend,

We obviously see things differently. Sam sings, can play guitar, make the rounds, and respect the fans; Roth can stand in one place, talk the words, and disrespect the fans. If that makes Roth a better frontman, then I'll take your second choice anyday.

Roth was once a great showman, but he didn't grow up, he just grew older.

    Peace Dawg!

You know what, lets just enjoy that these guys are still getting on stage at all. All of them could've hung it up long ago. Coaches, no coaches, go see 'em if you can, 'cause it ain't gonna last much longer, no matter who reunites with who.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

    This band needs a shrink.

They should do like Metallica did and endure a few months of group theropy.
