Default Any good Les Paul copy's out there?

I was just wandering if anyone has an opinion on Les Paul copy's/knock-off's, and can comment on quality and sound relative to Gibson. I've been doing a little research and have come up with a short list of guitar manufacturers that either currently produce or have produced "Les Paul's" in the past. For the most part they all seem to get pretty good reviews. They are as follows....

    Tokai
    Orville
    Burny
    Epiphone
    Greco

I am seriously considering the purchase of a Les Paul but cannot justify the expense on the Gibson "name". I owned a Epiphone years ago and wasn't to thrilled with it. I don't know if their quality has improved recently or not. I have never played any of the other makes I mentioned.

Any insight wpuld be a huge help!

    Many Thanks.

tokai's are great but there is one that is even better

Edwards are made by ESP and you can get them on ebay. i believe that ishibashi also will export them. For less then $800 shipped from japan you can have a new les paul that is as good or better then a les paul standard. I know mine was and it was better spec.

comes iwth a JB/JAzz combo, 1 piece back and 1 piece neck. the rosewood on mine is really dark and the thing plays like a dream. I'd put it up against any non-custom shop gibson and I work in a guitar store so I've seen a ton of les pauls come through. I'd say the one I got was very special and would be somewhere between teh quality of a r7 and the r9.

Dude I have a Epi Les Paul custom I got on ebay for less than $400. I love the guitar and it sees more stage action than my wolfgang or my PRS. If you can find a custom for that price, then I would try it first. but, thats just me...

I've never played one myself, but from what I hear, Agiles are very good considering their price.

Epiphones are great. I personally like them better than Gibsons. The wiring on their pickups is awesome. The action also feels lower than that of a Gibson. An Epi LP Standard was actually my first guitar from 15 years ago and I still record with it.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Elite and I am very happy with it. You can get a new one of those for under $1,000. Check one out.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd love to try a Tokai Love Rock but I don't know of any guitar store in my town that stocks them. I see them listed on eBay all the time, but for the most part they only have distribution in Japan...I think.

    Agile.

Great, cheap and high quality. Played a buddies Goldtop the other day for 4 hours at rehearsal. Came right home and ordered one. While my other buddies Les Paul Custom was indeed nicer, this Agile played and sounded better than my Gibson Les Paul Studio. Much nicer. I ordered the AL2500.

    Good luck.
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.

Dang, by "cheap" I thought you would mean 400 or 500 bucks. That one is 200 bucks, and you say it is great? I will look into it then. I would change the pickups, but the rest of the stuff looks nice, as long as it is made of quality components.

You may change the pickups, but why when they sound so freakin good? Gibson will sue these guys before too long, so get em while they are available. Yep, Grover tuners even on the 2500. Spend the $249 at least and get the 2500 model.

With a Fulldrive and an old Bassman, that LP copy is like butter.
