Default Pictures from Sammy in Santa Rosa 5/26

I took these last night in Santa Rosa. Michael Anthony was not there. There venue was nice and small. Mickey Hart lpayed drums onstage with Sammy for several songs. Roy Rogers (?) joined them onstage also for a song/ jam. Here are some shots-

They gave everyone in attendence a free Sammy cd as you left. They also had auctions for signed items. A drunk (?) Sammy female fan bid a signed guitar/package up to $15,000 then ran and hid outside as they looked for her. The guy who was in the bidding war got stuck with a $14,000 "win." Ouch- considering she wasn't good for the money. The show overall was a lot of fun. I was hoping Mike A. would be there but oh well...

    Default The stage...

The promoter for the charity came out and said Sammy wasn't getting paid for this show- but that he promised a great time. So a basic set-up is understandable. There was one "waitress" and the basic stage set-up. But other than no paper mache lighthouse and the bleachers on stage, it wasn't any different- just smaller which is fine. Sammy even made a comment about there being only 1 bikini girl saying they didn't pay for it. She also started bending over at one point advertising her strip club/ internet site on a shirt- and Sammy said "Hello- is anyone in there? There are kids here.."- it was pretty funny as she wasn't figuring out to stop..

Man, I'm glad I decided to not make the 400+ mile trek up there--no Mikey!!

Squalen, let's just hope he's there at Tahoe in August.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

I thought the same thing. I'm beginning to think maybe not, Jann. Mikey's tour shirts on his website don't reflect a second Tahoe stint, although there aren't specific dates, only locales, and I guess he could've lumped 'em all in.

Bummer deal, if Mikey doesn't show. Still, will be a good time anyway.

Are you gonna go for sure though?

It will be a great time regardless, but honestly, I'll be pissed and disappointed if Mikey's not there.

    Default Highway to Hell

I thought the coolest thing of the night was Night Ranger playing Highway to Hell. Worth the price of admission right there. They also played Great White's "once bitten, twice shy" as I guess the new keyboard player used to play for GW. Sometimes I wonder what they'd be like as a harder band as Brad and Jeff are amazing players. But they are a perfect compliment to the wabo's, much like Y&T was a few years ago.

Was surprised by Sam's set a bit as most of it seemed to be recent solo work. That's not a complaint by any means because the Wabo's always put on a great show and you never know what to expect. I just love it when he throws in some old monstrose and halen a bit more. I guess I'll just have to keep going to shows to get my fill.

Aw, dude, don't go just for Mikey. That's a gamble. If that's why you're goin', you might consider otherwise, given the $, tix, hotel, and the drive. Mikey's a bonus. He may have just committed to the May dates of the cinco de cabo tour...this one-off date in Tahoe in August might just be a Wabo gig, since it seems to be the only other show Sam's doing this year besides his birthday bash in Cabo.

I'm going to see Sam. Anything else is a bonus. And let's not forget, we haven't seen Sam in too many outdoor venues of late, and I dunno about you, but I've always preferred outdoor to indoor concerts. Plus, and this is the real draw, to be honest...the Sierra Nevada in the summer is da bomb. No foolin'. B E A utiful.

I think this Wabo group has become a classic "bar band".
