Gotta get Damn The Torpedoes (and according to Amazon, it too is remastered, as well as Hard Promises and Long After Dark) - to me, this is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at their best. Besides the obvious hits "Refugee", "Don't Do Me Like That" and "Even The Losers", the album contains some other gems like "Louisiana Rain", "Century City" and "What Are You Doing In My Life?". The whole album is great. I also really like Southern Accents and wonder if he has all the components he needs to make the album as he originally planned (it was going to be a double disc concept album about the south). Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) is probably their most underrated album.

Why does everybody keep putting "Petty" in red? I feel like I'm missing out

I just picked up "Damn the Torpedoes," my first and only TP record (though I know all the songs from the GH because I nicked it from my stepdad for several months a couple years ago and listened to it like crazy). DTT is a great album. Tom's a fantastic singer and songwriter.

Me and my stepdad have tickets to see him in Irvine August 14th, I can't wait!!

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

You'll love it. I just saw them last week and... wow. A couple surprises in the setlist, and high energy all-around.

Got to see TP with Jackson Browne about 2-3 years ago. Was my first time seeing him live and it blew away all my expectations. Excellent show....didn't play my favorite TP song ("Learning to Fly") but was a great night nonetheless.

Huge Petty fan here. His music is great all around. I just wonder why he goes from making a great album (like Echo) then following it up w/an experimental album (like the Last DJ). Still I do enjoy his music "Room at the Top", "Runnin Down a Dream", "Draggin my Heart", "You got Lucky" all are some of my faves. I had a chance to see him back in 94 or 95, but my friend died the day of the concert, so I couldn't make it.

That sucks about your friend. But you were right in not going to the concert.

You didn't like The Last DJ? In my opinion, that was one of his best ever. Like I've said a couple times on this thread, it was a testament to how much his sound has matured. Really showed his versatility, too.

Thanks for the condolensces/sympathies/whatever you call it. What made the matter worse was my good friend was driving and they were all coming back from a bar. Naturally everyone was drunk. Fucked part, 2 years prior to that when I drank alot, that could have easily been me in the vehicle. But I digress...I really didn't like the Last DJ too much. I thorougly enjoyed Echo-in fact, Room at the Top of the World was played at my wedding. Any word on a new album by any chance??

I think I heard he's gonna be recording a new album soon--but it's solo, sans Heartbreakers.

Hmm... at the concert in Cleveland he made it sound like it was a TP and the HB album. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

    I wanna say KLOS.

Hell, I might've just imagined it, LOL. But I think I did hear it on the radio.
