INXS played a couple of gigs with Terence Trent D'Arby singing,it sucked bigtime. The Jon Stevens from Noiseworks sang with them for a while but they never really had any interest without Micheal Hutchence.

Well, hopefully they can find a new lead singer that will meet up to your expectations. I know it will be hard for me too. I absolutely loved Michael! Actually cried the day I found out he died.

You never know,I never thought I'd get into VH when Dave left and Sammy won me over.I highly doubt though they are going to find a fitting replacement from a tv show though.
I'll still watch it of course.

I agree Bomber...Stevens never really filled Michael's shoes...however I caught Noiseworks live a few times in the mid eighties and thew wern't too bad. Did Jimmy Barnes ever have crack at the job??...I know eddie ask Jimmy to try out for VH many years back.

I hate reality TV at the best of times....but pretty good way to get a new singer really?...If some 'nobody' can sell a million albums after American Idol due to hype and exposure...it's gotta work for a band that is already recognied world wide. If they do it right it'll be cool viewing!.........and they'll sell a heap more albums to an even wider audience.

It will certainly be an interesting hunt for another to replace the irreplaceable Michael Hutchence. I too became very emotional after hearing he passed away. Very sad. Their music still plays in my head quite a bit when VH isn't up there!!!

Best of luck to the remaining band members and it's great that they're picking up the pieces and trying to keep their music going.

    RIP - Michael.

I can still remember when Michael died, it was on the same day as my brother's wedding, and I think the hotel where he died wasn't far from the church we attended.

Not long ago, a mate at work told me something he has a friend who was in someway related to the investigation team on the scene where Michael hung himself. He told me something to the effect that his friend doesn't believe he actually hung himself but was strangled. I'll have to follow up and confirm that the next time I see him.

I love INXS too! Favourite song is 'Original Sin'.

Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

    It's on tonight!!!

'Rock Star' risks becoming too much of a good thing

    By Maureen Ryan
    Tribune staff reporter
    Published July 11, 2005

"American Idol" is an unavoidable pop-culture juggernaut, but it remains a guilty pleasure for many rock fans.

CBS' terrific new reality show "Rock Star" (8 p.m., WBBM-Ch. 2) is guilt-free. All the performers are talented, and the song choices are tilted more toward tunes by Nirvana, the Who and Living Colour than toward all those worn-out pop oldies that "Idol" inflicts on us every season.

And "Rock Star," which chronicles the pop-rock band INXS' hunt for a singer, doesn't indulge in "Idol"-esque cheesy exploitation; the premiere of the program offered no footage of the auditions through which the 15 finalists were found.

Instead, the show plunges the final group of competitors almost immediately into performance mode. Each singer has to perform a rock standard with a competent backing band at L.A.'s evocative Mayan Theater, with INXS looking on.

The affable band members, who've been searching for a way to get their groove back since singer Michael Hutchence died in 1997, are joined in the judges' balcony by Dave Navarro, a former member of both Jane's Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Navarro adds a touch of gritty credibility to the proceedings, and he'll be hanging around the mansion in which the hopefuls will be living as a source of advice and rock 'n' roll instruction. The comely Brooke Burke of E!'s "Wild On" travel series is also on hand as a host.

Despite its fast-paced and pleasing premiere, I have two big questions about "Rock Star": Will audiences want to watch this show three nights a week? Especially if there's no audience-voting component to the show? Only the five remaining members of INXS decide who stays and who goes.

CBS has taken a big risk by giving this show an "Idol"-style schedule without "Idol"-style audience participation, and the show may wear out its welcome before it ends its three-month run.

But if viewers dig the show, they'll have lots of "Rock Star" to watch: Monday's premiere is one hour long, as is a Tuesday performance show that airs at 9 p.m.; at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, there will be a half-hour program featuring the ejection of a competitor. (Future Monday editions of the show will be a half-hour long.)

That's a lot of "Rock Star," but just think -- we won't have to hear "The Wind Beneath My Wings" or any other treacly pop standards on this show. That alone makes "Rock Star" worth watching.

INXS is one of those bands that (IMHO) cannot exist without its original singer. Hutchence had a vibe that just synched with that band in a way that Daltry did with The Who and Plant did with Zep. This idea is a farce.

The guy who did the KI$$ song looked quite a bit like a younger Steven Tyler . . .
