I don't know about worldwide, those sales really don't get reported. In the U.S. it has been certified platinum, but because it's a double CD that really only equates to 500,000 units sold. In comparison the Eagles greatest hits is the best selling album in history in the U.S. at 26 million copies sold. To compare it to another double CD greatest hits, Billy Joel's has sold over 20 million copies, or over 10 million units. Of course those albums have also been out 29 and 20 years respectively.

Plus, I dont think the Eagles OR Billy Joel released 2 GH packages with the same songs!

Actually Menlow...if it's platinum, it means that BOBW moved over 1,000,000 units. Doesn't matter if it's a 2-disc package. It means that 1-million BOBW packages sold.

Actually, it does matter. Since it's a 2 disc set every time it's sold, it is considered two records being sold. Platinum only means 500,000 units being sold. Had it been a four disc box set, then platinum would've been 250,000 units sold.

what a mistake the best of both worlds was....the running order is the worst....alex said that they did it because all the music is van halen music....there is not a different era to the band....my answer to that is that there are two different eras....

also, they already have a best of volume 1....why not just put out a best of volume 2, instead of new dave songs they have new sammy songs....

bunch of dumb dumbs....it sucks when heroes become hammer heads.

Actually, because of file sharing more units were probably sold. If people like what they hear they are more inclined to buy it.

No way, when BOV1 came out, if that was when file sharing was availible, people would have downloaded the two unreleased tunes, and said the fuck with the entire CD, that's a no brainer, the die hards would have picked it up but that's about it. File sharing and the net killed BOBW, not to mention having more or less the same fucking songs from BOV1, that was a stupid move very Kiss like.

I disagree a little bit. I still say that "best ofs" are marketed to the casual fan. Someone who likes the VH songs they hear on the radio, but maybe not enough to buy an album, or maybe they have one album like 1984 or 5150. The new songs only interest the die hards, they're included so that people who already own every VH CD will still buy it.

Some die-hards may have downloaded the new songs and skipped the CD, but a casual VH fan is still likely to buy the "best of" CD rather than download 10 songs, IMO.

I never mentioned BOV1 in my post.
