Default Operation Mindcrime - Blink182 and Green Day

Yesterday in a sports radio dead zone, I had the FM on and Blink was playing. It made me think of Operation Mindcrime of all things.

Anyone else have this strange sensation?

I just think it's funny how Green Day is lauded for their "concept"
album when the mere idea is so stereotypically the antithesis of
    punk. Seriously, weren't bands like Queensryche/The Who/Yes/etc.
crucified (by punks mostly) for the same sins?
So now we get all the pretention of a concept album delivered in
the rigid constructs of punk and they are somehow geniuses. Charming.

They gave the middle finger to the rules of punk. What could be more punk than that?

I just think it's more than a little ironic that GD is championed for a
by-the-numbers concept record where bands like Pink Floyd were
    castigated for really taking chances.

I like Green Day and all, but the concept album blah blah blah......nothing will compare to Mindcrime for me.

What I was getting at wasn't really Green Day but the Blink tune was funny and sounded good loud. I felt young listening to it (or old?) and I had a flashback to driving on the same highway many years ago with a new car stereo jamming out to Mindcrime on cassette. I guess I'm just having old people moments.

In no way shape or form would i ever try to elevate GD to Ryche status no matter how much I dig old Green Day ok. Just didn't want anyone to think I'm needing to be locked up and away.

I gotta say - Green Day's "American Idiot" has got to be one the best (if not the best) CD to come out in many, many years - concept album or not. Just an amazingly catchy, rockin' CD. Thank god for them and the Foo Fighters.

    Yeah, l'm the same.

Greenday and Queensryche should not be in the same sentence.

Wow Greenday did a concept album (who cares???), it'll never hold a candle to Dream Theater Scenes from a memory and Queensryche operation mindcrime.

    Riddick.

I like Greenday, SNIC hates them, Blink 182, I like the guys in the band, not the music. The other one, haven't heard them yet. But I live in a rinky dink redneck Texan town that is about 2 yrs behind musically.

I think the record is only good for the first 4 tunes, the rest is pretty shitty.

    So do I.

I agree with the fact that Green Day seems to think that American Idiot is such an amzing concept but it's what punk music is all about.
"For the words of the profits, are written on the studio wall, concert hall - echoes with the sounds...of salesmen."

"Measure your coffin does it measure up to your lust?"
