    Working on a demo CD

I'm working on a demo CD at the minute, or as much as I can with the limited time I have these days. It'll be four tracks, each instrumental guitar. Style wise I'm leaning towards a more country-ish feel these days rather than the shred stuff. Anyway, this is the first track to be completed, but will probably appear last on the CD...

All the guitars (including banjo and acoustic) are a Line 6 Variax 500 run through a Pod XT Live direct into Cubase. I should point out that this is purely a vanity project with no great plans - just doing it for the fun. Anyway, hope you enjoy it.
HERE AND GONE by Haylen Beck (Stuart Neville writing as...) - "It doesn't get better than this." - Lee Child, "Highly recommended." - Harlan Coben, "Cancel all your plans and settle in for the ride." - Ruth Ware, "This is a book that lives up to the buzz." - Alafair Burke

Excellent!! Sound quality is great as well. Very melodic. I started singing along with the song... and found that I'm not a great lyricist! Do you plan to add vocals to this song or leave it as an instrumental?
Homer: No one snuggles with Max Power. Just strap on and feel the Gs!

American Coast Guard: Back off Canadians we got them.
Canadian Coast Guard: You back off hosers, they are in Canadian waters, eh.
American Coast Guard: Beat it you puck smacking maple suckers!
Canadian Coast Guard: Take a hike you Shatner stealing Mexico touchers!

Bart: Who the hell is this?
Jack Bauer: I’m Jack Bauer, who the hell is this?
Bart: Me, er… I’m Ahmed Adudi
Jack: Chloe, get me all you can on Ahmed Adudi… Does anyone there know Ahmed Adudi?
Chloe O’Brien: Ahmed Adudi; wealthy Saudi financier… Disappeared into Afghanistan in the late 90s…
    Jack: … Really?
Chloe (ironically): No Jack it’s a joke name, you’re being set up.
    Jack: DAMMIT!

    Really nice man.
The only part that took away from the song was the over use of harmonic open picking during the softer lead at the beginning.
That interferred with the melody line itself, but was nice when the lead backed off. It filled the hole then. If you lowered it right down in the mix and brought it back up only in the quiet parts it would balance better.
Other than that it's a great tune.

Usually if a piece starts life as an instrumental it'll tend to stay that way for me. I've tried forcing lyrics over stuff before and it never works. I do write vocal stuf but it's obviously easier to do instrumentals and I'm lazy!

I'm not sure about that part myself. When I started this piece it had a more distirted lead tone which sat apart from the harmonics better. I may try either dropping it out when it's not need or try a different sound.

I enjoyed it. Sometimes the harmonics did interfere with the melody so I would suggest that you do what tribb said. Of course, it's only my opinion..
