Default What VH Songs would be hits in 2005?

I don't think there are too many. I think the straight simple pop rock songs without too much distortion are the type of songs they would need now to wage any kind of comeback on the radio or VH1.

I am pretty sure these songs would still be big hits even in 2005!!!

    1. Top of the World
    2. Dance the Night Away
    3. Beautiful Girls
    4. Right Now
    5. So this is Love
    6. I Can't Stop Loving you. (even though it is over-produced)

    These 3 might make it..

    7. Unchained (maybe a little different version of it)
    8. Panama (maybe, even though it is my favorite)
    9. Dreams (with a piano and more guitar and killing the 80's keyboards)

Anybody else have any suggestions that might make the top 40 if it was released today? Don't tell me your favorites. There have been a ton of threads on that.

To answer that question I would have had to listened to anything that's been popular over the last 10 years. Therefore, I can't answer that question.

Although I do think, outdated keyboards or not, Jump still remains their catchiest, most accessible, radio friendly song.

Most of the Fair Warning album does not sound dated to me. The guy from Alice in Chains was once quoted as saying Fair Warning Era Van Halen was the godfather of grunge...and I think you can hear it.

interesting thread but also proof of how we have nothing better to discuss because Van Halen doesn't do shit. Just thought I'd point that out

No way! Van Halen is anti-grunge.

Oh yeah, I think Finish What ya Started would cut it too.

I just think that if VH are going to make new music, it should be kinda like the stuff in my first post, or else nobody will play it on Radio or VH1.

They have to go for a pop/rock style with some killer Eddie solos on it. Just make some fun music. If they want to go for a more progressive style (96 Dave songs, Humans Being, 3 New songs) that's cool, but it isn't going to ever be popular.

The Darker "Don't Tell Me" Vibe might make it on the heavier rock stations. I don't think the DAVE/SAMMY thing has as much to do with it as the feel of the music does.

By any standard most of their music is timeless. No matter when you listen to it, it is as good as any other time. I can't imagine the buzz it would create if a band that good emerged today and stuck around for a while. I mean, look at the buzz G-n-R started in the late 80's. VH's music is not something that you can place in any year or decade.

Guess it's personal taste, but I think Mean Streets is appropriate nowadays, IMO of course, and probably only IMO. But oh well.

I think you received that response from HippieLettuce because Mean Streets is not the name of the song, not because he didn't agree with what you were saying.
