Default Anybody put a floyd Rose on a LP?

Howdy everybody! I was just wondering if anybody had ever put a floyd rose on a les paul before? I am asking because I have always really digged the tone, look and feel of a LP, but I have to have a floyd. Im lookin into getting an epi LP custom, so It wouldn't bother me to route it out, im just wondering if it can be done, and if any of you have done anything like that before. I havent played a LP for a really long time and im thinking that if I mounted the floyd directly to the body or even recessed it like I would prefer, it wouldnt give the strings enough hight over the neck. I've looked at those LTD/ESP guitars, but they just don't do it for me, they look too angry if anybody has any ideas I'm all ears.

khaler used to make a trem for a les paul, steve clark (def leppard) used em.
It doesnt take as much wood from the guitar.

I think neal schon uses les pauls with floyds.

do you own a tunomatic though? there NIIIIIIIIIICE tailpieces. One of my favorites.

Yes Neal does, and also has a built in sustainer on it as well. He says he loves it. Matter of fact I believe he's got a signature axe coming out, and they're accepting pre-orders for them. It's expensive though.

    Here's Neal's main axe

the epiphone les paul gothic (don't know if they make them anymore) had the option of coming with a floyd rose tremlo, maybe you could get one of them and save yourself the effort!

Here's the link to Neil's new signature Les Paul. It might be exactly what you're looking for.

around2k5150, Check out one of these. They work great, there's absolutely no routing or drilling of any kind. It'll fit onto your paul using the bridge post holes that are in there now, and can be removed and put back to stock with no effort. If you decide to change guitars it'll come off and fit onto your next guitar without any damage or alteration to the instrument.
I've seen a no. of players use them and they really work.

Thanks for all the ideas everybody! I really like the look of the stetsbar trem, anybody have one? I really dig it, and it sounds very promising, just wondering if I'll still be able to have the strings flapping Thanks

One of my friends plays in an Ozzy tribute and he uses them on his pauls.
They'll drop or raise pitch like a regular floyd but stay in tune much better becuase of the more stable system the stetsbar uses.
Instead of moving up and down like a floyd it moves back and forth towards and away from the nut, producing the same pitch drop and pull up that a floyd does. The problem with a number of pauls, regardless of what whammy you use, are the poor quality tuners they outfit them with. Even the high priced pauls are set up with tuners not designed for the constant pull of a floyd type bar. A lot of guys retro fit different tuners as well.
You also have to make sure the strings don't bind in the nut. Fixed bridge guitars don't usually have the problems associated with floyd bridges.

The Stetsbars are pricey but not much more than a new floyd and without all the extra permanent crap you'd have to do to your paul to use a floyd.

Every once in a while, one of these will pop up on ebay. They are pretty rare though. As you can see, it IS a Floyd Rose but requires no routing for the trem to be installed. Only the neck would have to be modified for the locking nut.

Yea, kind of like some kid taking a chisel to a stratocaster and chopping out a hole, then sticking a humbucker pickup in there. Then putting a floyd rose onto a strat. It just isn't right.
