    Default stage fright?

what do you guys do to cure stage fright?
the first time i played in front of a large group i actually threw up a little bit (i disguised it like i was fixing something on my amp, i was still playing). The next time i played i kinda threw up, but nothing came out. Both of these instances were during the first song, and i felt great from the 2nd song to the last (i was cocky enough to throw in poses). I really dont want the embarrasment of having this again, and im playing a big gig on the 29th. what should i do?

I think stagefright is a by-product of the fear of fuckin up. You WILL fuck up a little (mostly) or a LOT (rarely) so don't be afraid of it. Live with it. Embrace it. Then laugh at it when it rears it's head.

I only get the 'nerves' when I'm performing for family. They are my toughest audience. No real reason, that's just how it is for me.

NEVER FORGET THIS: Just have fun. That's the most important thing. Always.

Stage fright is kinda like riding a bike. The more you do it, the more you get used to it. After a few live gigs, it'll go away. But until then bring your barf bag!

Just dont aknowledge the auidence untill you feel confident. I NEVER Look at the audiemce untill the 3rd or 4th song of our set. and then only if its a good show. Just keep your head down and pretend you're rocking.

plus a few shots of Jagermiester never hurt either

Drinking a lot is never a good idea, it has the tendency to become habit forming (EVH).
I usually have a beer or two before going on, and make sure I'm ready to play. That usually means having the guitar on half an hour before going on, just noodling around, or going over new parts or ideas.

I figure that if I go on stage warm, whatever comes out is the best I can do at that time, if they don't like it fuck em. Strings break, soundmen suck and other bandmates have off nights. I figure that if I do everything in my power to be ready to play the night is going to fun....at least for me

With me I'm usually nervous right up until I hit the first note of the show then it all turns fun.

this might sound stupid...but the best cure for stage fright is to know what you're doing...know the songs well...

This may or may not apply depending on what music you play and your audience.

If you are playing in a band that plays out chances are you are an ok guitarist. More so than 95-99% of the people out there watching you. They want to see you, not the other way around.

Now if you are worried about other guitarist try this.
I think I read this here in a different forum but somebody said if you are nervous on what to play, pretend that Jimi Hendrix, SRV and Randy Rhoads are sitting in the front row. What can you do to impress them? Nothing.

I think that when you first start playing out its like talking to girls when you were 13 or so. Its awkward and you are worried about saying the wrong thing (playing wrong notes) but if you do it enough it becomes second nature. So much so you don't think about it and then the night is over and you are tearing down.

Forget about how many are ther, who they are, and just play especially if it's original music. I mean, you wrote it, so you should be able to play it...

Hey, if puking works for you then continue to blow chunks. Just bring some Scope and keep it near your amp.

Everybody has a little stage fright before a show. Know your material, tripple check your equipment and tunings and stay focused. I think it was Keith Moon that used to puke before every show, it got so that the band wouldn't take the stage until he did. There are many big-time stars who take the stage thinking "Tonight's the night they find out I'm a fraud".

Me? I was worrywart. I'd get myself so worked up before a gig that nobody could stand me. My drummer actually neutralized me by telling me a joke, and this joke became a running gag for as long as we played together. That got my head in the game and kept my stage fight under control.

The more you do it, the easier it gets...to a point.

Just remember to check your fly.
