    Top Jimmy

Okay, this may be a stupid question but it's a question I've always had. Does the "hammer guy" character the band used back in the early '80's have a name? I've been told before that IS Top Jimmy others say that "Top Jimmy" is written about a guy the band knew back in the club days. Anyone know the real story? Also I was wondering if anyone had any large, high resolution pics of the hammer guy they could post on this thread. If so, thanks in advance.

Top Jimmy IS about a guy from their club days.

The Hammer Guy is not 'Top Jimmy,' but a bastardized logo from a pest control company here in southern California.

Top Jimmy was a local musician in the LA scene who worked at Top's Tacos for extra money. In fact he was loved for giving free food away to starving musicians. Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs were a novelty act in the LA club scene back in the day. Good ol' Diamond Dave wrote some cool lyrics about the guy.

I love when I drive down like I think it's the 101 near LA and I see their factory. And you always see their trucks with the logo driving around the LA area.
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

-Derrick Jensen, "What We Leave Behind"

"You know what's weird to me is Christians who are against the death penalty. After all, if it weren't for the death penalty, we wouldn't celebrate Easter!"

We were down at Irvine Meadows seeing Rush once, senior year in high school i think, and saw one of their trucks parked at an In N Out burger joint, had the big plastic Hammer dude mounted on the roof, about 3 feet tall.

So we snagged it, of course, being the degenerates that we were. His feet came off half-cocked because we didn't have a wrench for the bolts..but it was funny at the time. The time being, wasted as hell and such.

Damn, wonder whatever happened to that thing?

The joke was that, at the time, sponsorships were becoming big in the music biz. "The Rolling Stones Tour brought to you by Pepsi" and so on. VH thought it would funny that instead of some company sponsoring them, they would sponsor a company. So it was actually the "Western Extermination Company sponsored by the Van Halen 1984 Tour" and VH used the hammer guy logo on the 84 Tour.

I don't think hammer guy has an official name though.

About the little man from the website

"Big Job for a Little Man
The Little Man gets around. Generations of children have gaped at his image on our trucks, which are seen around town as service technicians make their rounds for Residential and Commercial customers. He has made it into movies, toured with a rock band, and become a collectible. Printed or painted, flat or inflated, the Little Man is still at the peak of his powers."

The West Extermination building was one of the places I HAD TO VISIT the first few times I went to LA. It was sort of one of those VH shrine-type-places I just had to see. I STILL have the pic of the sign somewhere...

My advice is to go for the alien abduction story. Look bemused, dishevelled and on the verge of tears as you recount your story of intrusive and degrading medical tests.
Worked for me anyway. I still have colleagues asking me what it is like to fuck a green womanoid with seventeen breasts.

I also love when I see the diver down logo on places, even though I know it's probably not for VH.
