    Default A Definitive List...

Does anyone out there have a definitive list of the songs Michael Anthony actually plays bass on? I know it's pretty hit or miss as to his relationship with the bros, but I am really interested in what is his playing and what isn't.

I believe whole III and most of Balance were played by EVH. And I'm pretty sure there's no Mikey on Pleasure Dome either

I think this would be one of those questions where anyone who is answering is either lying or at best guessing. The only people that know the answer to those questions are the guys in the band or people that were in the studio. If I had to guess, I'd say he played on everything just because he wouldn't be credited with songwriting credits on the stuff if he didn't. Last I checked he received song writing credits on Balance so I don't see why he wouldn't have played on the album. Did he write all his own stuff? That's another question (but again you and me don't know the answer to it).

I'm a serious amatuer bass player, and IMHO when I really tune into the bass and listen carefully to say, III, I would conjecture it's very likely NOT Mike playing most, if not all, of the bass parts. The instrument is clearly being played by another musician to my ears. It is of course possible Mike has altered his style of playing, but again, I doubt it very, very much. Just my $0.02.

I think Mike played on all of the albums but I think Eddie played most of - if not all - the bass parts on III.

There's a couple of songs on Balance I'm not too sure Mike played on but I don't remember which ones offhand.

This has about as much chance of being answered accurately as does the release date of another full album and tour.

I disagree on Pleasure Dome.....on the radio premiere Ed was commenting "Listen to Mikey smoke on this one". Ed was also offended that a few journalists notioned that Al and Mike are a sub-par rhythm section.
