Default Long Road to Cabo Made Me Sick

I finally sat down and watched Sammy's DVD Long Road to Cabo. I don't know if anyone else had the same reaction but watching the DVD made me physically ill. Not that it wasn't well put together, because it was. But watching Sammy on his solo tour enjoying himself more than he ever appeared to be with Halen just didn't sit well with me. It was like watching a girl you dumped hook up with someone else and be happier than she ever was with you. Not only that but she did it with someone who wasn't nearly as successful or good looking. I guess what I'm asking is why didn't our band ever look as happy as the Wabo's did in this DVD? And why didn't Sammy ever think of this DVD idea when he was with Halen? (I know it wouldn't have worked as well on this tour, I don't think you could have gotten 5 minutes of tape of a happy band offstage). I guess what I'm wondering is how can this band be put back together to be a fun rock n roll band again?

What show were you at last summer? Van halen had a blast on tour...of course there were areas of tension..welcome to the music business my friend. There were some shows where they had a fuckn' blast, for example get yourself a boot of VH in NJ 6-23...they had a fuckn' blast and it shows!!!

keep in mind with the Long Road to Cabo it's a footage of a whole summer, of course they aren't going to include when sammy is taking a shit or pissed off about something...if Van Halen put together a DVD they'd do the same of course...who wouldn't??

On my LWAN dvd they hardly look like a group of depressed mother fuckers.

Why would you be 'sick' watching Sam have a good time? If it just reminds you that it's not like that in the Van Halen camp, well, that ain't Sam's fault. Chalk it up to a coupla brothers who've got ego issues. Blaming Sam is stupid. They coulda been a part of the good times from the get-go, if they just stuck with the Cabo biz along with Sam, and if they didn't insert their heads up the wazoo back in '95.

    But hindsight's always 20-20, ain't it.

I do know what you mean. That was back in yet another of the dark bitter periods. One can plainly ascertain the state of Van Halen affairs while watching the DVD when (1) Dave apparently blows off Sam's offer to do a duet for the fans, (2) Gary Cherone and Sammy put aside the weirdness and do a Zep cover in New York, and (3) near the end, when Mikey and Sammy are drivin' along in a van and Mikey's talkin' about how bitchin' it is getting that groove back they had in days gone by, and says "now if we could only get Beavis and Butthead on board with everything."

If there's one thing all us VH fans can agree on, whether Sam or Dave oriented, it's that those wacky Halen bros have gotten a little ornery in their old age.

Man, it's amazing the different way people around here see things. When I watched that dvd when it first came out, I had a gut feeling that a VH reunion would happen. Maybe it was cuz Mike was in the video a lot or the thing with Gary and the jamming of VH tunes or whatever. But I fet the Sam-VH reunion was inevitable. The video got me very psyched. Not to mention the Wabos are a solid band, of course not as good as VH, but they don't suck that's for damn sure.

I just wish things would have turned out better in the land of Van Halen......

It made me sick too. Only because I wasn't at everyone of those shows and hanging out with him.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

actually you're completely off brown sound. Never said that nor meant that in any way. The best show I've ever seen was on the VH3 tour, never saw them with Dave. Saw them with sammy about 8 or 9 times, loved the first 7. The 2 I saw on the last tour were below average and horrible, respectively. Sammy was very good in the first show (a little more singing and a bit less signing would have been nice though) and ok in the second.

Before this turns into a Dave vs. Sam thread...

Long Road is a GREAT dvd...

That being said, when Mike & Sam are speaking of "Beavis & Butthead" in the back of the limo, I did cringe just a little...oh, well...lif goes on...

I saw VH in Dallas on the last tour, and they did indeed look like they were having fun onstage. Key word there is "onstage". Of course I wasn't backstage, but from the interviews and photos, it seemed like Alex and Eddie when to their side, and Sammy and Mike with to theirs with little communication between the two camps.

I would love an "all access" VH DVD. Remember the Balance Tour Toronto Pay Per View Special? They were going to release that as a DVD with "behind the scenes" footage. Of course, right before that happened, it all went to shit.
