Check this shit out. I was doing a search on Woody and found this pic out there.

*The pic isn't showing up. Here's the link http://www.geetarz.org/reviews/abb/m...iskos-back.jpg
if the link comes up dead, hit refresh, it should come up, that's what it's doing for me.

That's ol' Rod there back in '99 in the White Detroit Tigers hat and the Allmans shirt to the right.

I agree. I like Deja Voodoo but I was a little disappointed too. It's not as strong as the previous ones. The first one and Dose are my favorite studio ones. Live at Roseland smokes. That's the one I let people borrow first when I try to turn them on to the Mule. Unfortunately that one is out of print now.

    Not sure.

I asked a friend of mine and he thought it might be some kind of time sensitive thing, but I think the tunes were recorded after the disc was released. I'm going to do some research on this and if I find out anything I'll let you know. I'll go ask around the Mule community and see if anybody knows.

I'm new to the mule. I've been listening to a couple of tunes I found on the net: Blindman in the dark, Soulshine, John the Revelator, Beatifully Broken, and a live cover of War Pigs. These songs are really cool and show how diverse of a style they can play. I also went to their site and checked out a few sound clips from Deja Voodoo and Life Before Insanity. I Liked Life B.I better. So, can someone point me in the direction of what's good to listen to by Gov't mule?

The first 2 are the best ones.

'Gov't Mule' is pure straight ahead "heavy blues". My favorite tracks 'Mule' (w/ John Popper on harp) and 'Left Coast Groovies'.

'Dose' is where they start to show their Jazz influences but it's still a pretty heavy rocker. This is the one that features 'Blindman In The Dark', 'John The Revelator' and the Beatles 'She Said, She Said/Tomorrow Never Knows Jam'. My favorite track is 'Game Face'.

'LBI' was their 3rd studio release. The last one to have Allen Woody(possibly the greatest Bass player ever). He past away right after the tour for this album. 'Bad Little Doggie' & 'Wandering Child' are 2 of my favorites on this one.

After Woody died they released 'The Deep End Vol.1 & Vol.2' featuring 25 Bass players (Flea, Dave Schools, Jack Bruce, John Entwistle, Les Claypool, Jason Newsted, Chris Squire, Billy Cox, Roger Glover and many many more).

After the 'Deep Ends' Warren & Matt decided the Mule will continue. Instead of being a 3 piece they expanded to 4. They brought on Danny Louis (Keys) and Andy Hess (Bass).

Deja Voodoo is a good CD but it's not as strong as the previous ones.

Through out their career they've released 3 live CD's.

The best one is 'Live At The Roseland'. This one is out of print. You can still find copies of it at Amazon.com but you're going to pay $30 for the CD. I'm sure they'll re-release it again.

This one was still the original 3 piece but with some guests (Derek Trucks, Bernie Worrell and Marc Ford). Excellent disc (2 disc). If you can find it, buy it.

This one is pretty sweet too. This was released in 2003. 2 live discs and a DVD and it's only about $25 or so. Not bad for 2 disc and a DVD. This has a shitload of people on it. A bunch of dudes from the Deep Ends and many more guest like The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, a couple of cats from Los Lobos, Sonny Landreth....too many to name. BUY IT!!!!!!!

    Hope this helps.

Oh, sweet heavens, a Mule thread......

"Seven days we watched the sun come risin',
    No sleep for the wicked;
Seven nights I lie awake, while my mind
Drifted 'cross the valleys and streams...."

Thanks for this, Rod, I had to come out of the woodwork for the Mule thread.

From Christmas Jam '01 "I think":
"That's one more kid that'll never go to school,
Never get to fall in love,
Never get to be Dave Schools"

I think "Deja Voodoo" was thrown together in a very short amount of time. It has it's moments, but "Lola" ain't one of 'em.

"Live With a Little Help" is what hooked me originally.

If you ever meet Warren, ask him what it was like playing with David Allen Coe back in the ragin' 80's. He'll just smile and tell you he's lucky to have made it.

    Cool, cool band.

    Peace, later y'all.

Just wanted to give a heads up to some of the muleheads here. Mule just finished recording their new album with Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar producing. Still diggin the Mule, cool band. Downhome and soulful. I just read that Mule's guitar player has played on a few Big Sugar tunes, one being their cover of LEt it Ride. If you like Mule you'll probably like B-sugar, However they are no more. Gordie Johnson is with Grady now. Now that I know Gordies producing them, I'm really looking forward to hearing it; it's gonna rock.
