    Default DAVE LIVE SINCE 1996

Has DLR ever played Me Wise Magic or CGTSNM live?? Seeing UFB made on Sammy's set list made me think of this...A "no" answer could spark some interesting debate regarding A) the character of each guy and B) what we might be able to read into Sam awknowleding his most recent efforts with VH compared to Dave's lack of awknowledgement...and this isn't really a Sam VS. Dave discussion as much as who's done what and why...if Dave has played these tunes live, I would expect this thread to come to a screeching halt-or sadly turn into a pissing contest...

He has not played those songs live. I think he feels he needs to concentrate more on the "classic" Van Halen songs, rather then those two tunes. I would kill to hear them live though. I'm pretty sure his band could play MWM musically, but the vocals are a bitch for Dave, and whomever has to sing Mikey's part.

As far as I know, Dave has NEVER played these songs live. Seeing "Up For Breakfast" done by anybody but Eddie is strange though.

Since Dave returned, so to speak, to the live concert scene years ago, he basically plays a full set of CVH with 1 or 2 of his solo tunes. I've never heard of Dave ever performing either of those 2 tunes from 96.

interesting...I guess if he can't pull them off live, it's better leaving them alone...my gut tells me it might have something to do with the circumstances surrounding that whole period of time...

well in the DLR/Sammy stakes, I'm for the former any day of the week...but I really don't think DLR could hit those notes live, especially the pre-chorus bit, "Reach up to the feet of God, lookin' for a sign" etc.

Oddly enough, I think Sammy would suit this song a lot better than most of the original VH material, just because the style of the track is more similar to later VH stuff.

I'd be surprised to ever hear Dave play those songs live (unless he was with Van Halen). Didn't Desmond Child, or one of those "song doctors", come in and co-write it?

In an interview that someone posted before, Ed says he & Glen Ballard wrote most of MWM before Dave arrived and I think Ballard also helped out with CGTSNM as well. Depending on what you believe from Ed, Dave had little to do with the lyrics to them.

Blame Ed for some of those notes and lyrics, that was his and Ballard`s brainstorm.

Oh come on, Van Halen has never been the most lyrically pretty band.

I also think Dave would have his share of troubles pulling off MWM...

However, I'd love to hear CGTSNM live...I think he could easily pull this one off.

As much as I've bashed Dave for his inability to sing live, in 1996 he got the raw deal, even if he was an ass at MTV awards...(really he was just being himself, and trying to entertain, which I can't fault him for)...

Getting back to the theme of the thread...I do think Dave would jump to front Van Halen again, and I think not playing those two 1996 songs has nothing to do with it.

Dave is saving those two songs for when he's back with VH

DLR: "James...I AM New Years Eve!"
