They're a bit nasal sounding for me...but it is the pickup that George Lynch designed with Seymour Duncan.

If you listen to Dokken or Lynch Mob, youve got the Screamin Demon. Ive got a couple dokken songs on my computer and whenever I listen to them, the rythm and lead sections are very disticnt because george's sound is also very distinct.

Its pretty hard to categorize the pickup he is using because it has a combination of the SD 59 and a Dimarzio Super Distortion. Take a listen to "Its Not Love" by Dokken or "The Hunter". Those are pretty solid dokken tunes with some great solos.

Im not entirely sure because I dont know when he started doin the SD thing. Might have been in the past couple of years cuz Im not even sure that his original Kamikaze had the Screamin Demon but now all of his signature ESP's have the Screamin Demon. I think the hunter was recorded in 86/87 so im not sure if he was using SD at the time. Might have been dimarzio.

I agree with what people have said, I have 2 kamikaze's and a skulls and snakes and put a SD in my custom guitar. To me it's alot like a duncan 59 but a bit more treble.

Don't forget lynch used/uses so many guitars you never know what he's using on a paricular song/cd. When lock and key came out there was no SD, that came out around 1991-1992. I would say "wicked sensation" from lynch mob would give you a decent idea of the sound.

Don't think you are gonna sound like lynch if you put a SD in your guitar, but it's a good humbucking pickup that has a reasonable price tag.

Heres the official description from the SD site

"This pickup was designed in the Custom Shop for George Lynch. It has the big open sound of our '59 Model™ with a little less bite and a little more growl. The tone is big, percussive and still bites without being harsh. It uses alnico magnets and yields medium output"

I agree with that. Especially on a tune like The Hunter, because GL's tone on that song is just sick. Who knows what guitar or amp set up he used to get that tone.

I'm also thinkin of throwin a demon in my frankenstrat, but I think I like the Breed pickup better.

If you want something that is reliable for a frankenstrat replica, go with a SD 59. Ive got one in my warmoth and it hasnt failed me yet but others might have other opinions

    ???

The '59 is one of the cheapest pickups Duncan makes. Maybe you're thinking of the EVH.

Either way, please practice intensity when you read messages here, especially if you're naming yourself "RockGod".

The Screamin Demon is OUTSTANDING for VH tones when you make a $5 magnet switch and use an Alnico II magnet. It's the cheapest way to recreate EVH's pickup that I'm aware of, and only .5k higher than what he used, which was an old PAF pickup that was wax-potted and overwound to 9.5k, with an Alnico II magnet.

If it's money you're concerned about, then go w/ the Demon, and ask anyone on the SD forums to help you complete the magnet switch.

    That said......

I'm still a relatively new believer that ANY pickup without an upper-midrange spike or Ceramic magnet can do a fair rendition of EVH, so long as it's output isn't too high, and the player & other equipment is right.

I've heard someone use a high-output JB pickup w/ the spike dialed-out with an EQ pedal through a Plexi, and it sounded damn good, and I'm not the nicest critic.

The Duncan Screamin' Demon is a real nice pickup. Comparing this to the standard "Gibson Type" pickup, they typically measure between 7.5 and 8.6K These typically have great tone but they don't push enough voltage into the front of the amp to help it break up. The High output Duncan JB, super distortions, and equivalents put out about 14K and at that point, they have alot of output, but are very midrangey.

The Duncan Screamin' Demon is right at 10K Enough to be hotter than the PAF clones and not enough to rob alot of tone out of the signal. I have one in my Frankenstrat and it's just about right. It's a good value compared to the EVH custom shop PU.
