    angled neck pocket?

hey. i was thinking about a project guitar, one like eddies 5150 or his black and yellow strat. the thing is, ive been reading around, about floyd roses. i want one that isn't recessed into the body, with all that ugly routing. the thing ive read tells me that i would need to angle the neck pocket to do this withoutgetting problems. i was wondering if this was true, or if there was more to it. i was planning to get a strat body from warmoth, routed all how i want it, with one humbucker in the bridge position and no pickguard. this is the one thing i want to make sure of before i go and maybe make a mistake. thanks.

You know, I dont really understand what the angled neck pocket is for either. Ive got 2 guitars with floyds (1 warmoth and 1 kramer) but the difference between the 2 is that the warmoth has a non-recessed floyd and the neck pocket isnt angled and it plays like a dream. But the kramer has a recessed floyd and a angled neck pocket and it is a bitch to get the action setup on that thing. Ive got huge, huge frett buzz on the lower E string on the 1-about 24 frets and that goes for most of the strings but I cant lower the action any lower without risking more frett buzz.

Maybe someone with more floyd experience can help us out.

For what it's worth, I've done a few Floyd conversions on Strats with vintage style trems and have always had to shim the necks. It's never been THAT severe and I've never really questioned doing this as I assumed it was just part of doing a setup. But you may be on to something ...

I think, rather than ask here ... ask Warmoth and takes names so you'll have some form of recourse if it doesn't work out.

    Good Luck

by shim the neck, do mean like sanding down the part that goes in the pocket so it is angles?

Na ... what I mean by "shim" is to place a thin object in the neck pocket to adjust the pitch of the neck when it's bolted on. You can use objects like razor blades or even a guitar pick as a shim.

If the pitch of the neck needs to come forward, position the shim closer to the end the neck pocket which faces towards the headstock. If the pitch of the neck needs to go back, position the shim closer to the end of the neck pocket which faces towards the bridge.

    You can do it!
