    Default Where were you ?

It's the 10 year anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing !
I remember this day very well , because I listened to the whole thing on the radio while driving to Lexington , Ky. to see Van Halen with Collective Soul at Rupp arena ! Kinda bitter sweet day !
Sam had some thoughtful things to say !

Has anyone else had a similar surreal experience ?

It was a little tough to be "pumped up" for the show , knowing what had happened earlier in the day !

I was in college, celebrating the wonderful day that is my birthday, when I turned on the TV and I saw what was happening.

This was definitely one of those surreal days. I was in the car so I first heard about it on the radio. Just like 9/11, the reports that first came in were no where near accurate as far as the severity of the situation was. With each report more and more detail was added until finally the newscaster suggested people find a tv so they could fully understand what had happened. Very sad day.

I was at work when I heard about the bombing. Feels like it was just yesterday...

I was sitting in court waiting to get called (or not called) for jury duty. I ended up not having to serve on a jury but I had to sit there all day and try and see what was going on watching a tiny tv with terrible reception before they let us go home.

    Very sad sad day.......

I was actually in a boat fishing that day. We had a radio and they announced it, we pretty much packed it up and went home....bad day, one that will always be in my mind even though I'm far away from there.

There is a bunch of crap that has happened on this day besides the Bombing.

4/19/2000 - Air Philippines Boeing 737-200 from Manila to Davao crashes on approach to landing, killing all 131 people on board.

4/19/1993 - Branch Davidian complex with cult followers still inside in Waco Texas burned. 77 people, including 20 children killed.

I was working for a little Mom-n-Pop radio station in Spirit Lake, Iowa when the flash came over the AP wire. We went to live news feeds off the satellite and we all just kinda sat there in suspended animation as we watched the video feed on our in studio TV's. After my shift, I went on about the day, not realizing the severity of the bombing.

It wasn't until I saw this picture on the evening news, that I understood it wasn't just a "political" statement, it was also an attack on all things innocent and pure.

I was just getting into my government/history class my senior year of high school when my teacher had it playing on the tv in her class...

I actually went to the memorial site in OKC a few years ago and it's really interesting seeing how they put it all together, from the time you walk into a room and they have a recording a water dept mtg right when the explosion happened across the street from them, then seeing the room go black and all the victims faces flashing...and then seeing a door open and you get to walk thru everything from the actual debris found to news reports from around the world.

I teared up seeing the one part of the exhibiit showing all the faces of the victims (esp the children) each had a memento next to them and words about them from family and friends, they also showed clips of some of the funerals....it was really really hard to take.

The two columns that say 9:01 and 9:03 (if I remember right) stand in front and in back of a sleek body of water that is only a couple of inches deep, and seeing the chairs of the victims across the way is surreal to say the least..

I recommend that everyone go and see this memorial, it's something everyone should see.

I remember I was staying home sick from school that day when I turned on the tv and saw what had happened. My mom and I were both glued to the tube for the rest of the day. God bless the lost ones and their families of this tragic event.

Remember coming back from class at University of MD and just turned on the TV to surf. It was being covered by every station in the DC area. I was pretty dumbfounded and it didn't hit me until later what really happened.
